Moving from North Miami Beach, Florida
Hi
I am a mother of three boys soon to have a fourth baby, don't know the sex yet. I moved to North Miami Beach, Florida from New Jersey and I am originally from Washington Heights, NYC(Manhattan) Since I moved here I have not been able to see any Progress except for graduating with a Bachelors degree in PUblic Administration. I have gotten sick, have not been able to be more than 1 year in a place because we have to move and the JoBS are TERRIBLE!! Now that I am having another baby we are trying to find out what would be the best place for us. I want to move somewhere where my kids could have friends over, they love to play sports like BASEBALL. But here in NMB people are so rude, so I want a place where I could smile again. I hate the school my 12 year old goes to JOHN F. KENNEDY MIDDLE. I was born in PUerto Rico and lived there as a child after we moved I would go every summer. Life was so different, I want my kids to have that type of experience. I feel that over here we are struggling so much with the high cost of living and low wages. I graduated from college and still work as an adminstrative assistant, and so do a lot of ladies I know. I am thinking of becoming a teacher, like the flexibility it brings and the rewards of educating a child. I don't want to go back to NYC or NJ. I was thinking of Orlando, Florida but then again that is still FLORIDA. My husband's cousin moved to South Carolina. We are thinking about visiting to finally find out whether we like it or not. The question is what does any of you suggest? I have heard good things about NC and SC but I am not too good with boring and too quiet types of places, this is what my mom seems to think they are. What do you recommend?
Desperately seeking a place to move to after my baby comes in December

I don`t think the jobs will pay you anymore here but you should look around and as for North carolina and South Carolina they do have cities with night life it`s not as if the whole state is out in the sticks.

I would not move to Orlando, if anything there are less opportunities and lower pay than South Florida. I know many people that have moved to Charlotte N.C. and have loved it, they say there are beter job opportunities, better pay, and its a happening city.

NC and SC are now full of disgruntled people from Florida and the northeast. not sure how all those people are mixing in with all the hardcore southern folks??

How about Houston, TX? Texas has a surprisingly nice approach to public education, and Houston offers a lot of jobs in MOST fields for a very low price (except for property taxes which are as high or higher than Florida). Very friendly people and the truest sense of multiculturalism I have ever seen in a US city.

You could probaly find a better family environment here for the same prices as you're paying in NMB but the problem still remains the wages will be low. As far as the family environment you're searching for, I think that's much more prevalent here than in North Dade/South Broward area. Hunter's Creeks is a place where you could find reasonably priced place and have your children participating in sports leagues and making friends. Lake Mary, Altamonte Springs, Winter Springs are also areas where you could find that but again it's matter of the job and pay. Best advice in this situation is to visit the places, check out the job market and do your research so you can make an educated decision. I know plenty of people here, including some I work very closely with, who's story reads almost identical to yours (came here from the NYC/NJ area looking for better place to raise a family here) and are very happy here. But again the key for them was they were able to find good employment here. I really feel if you could lock down a good job here you may end up finding what your looking for. Good Luck and hope this helps.
