State gives Orange County Public Schools an A grade
Not only did Orange County Public Schools record its best ever evidence of high performing schools the state Department of Education calculated and graded the district an A district for the first time. Orange County is one of three large districts in Florida to achieve the A rating. Superintendent Ronald Blocker said, “This achievement is the result of hard work by faculty, staff and students. In addition, the support from the community has helped tremendously. We have 126 schools that are high-performing according to state standards, up from 115 A and B schools last year.” Among 18 high schools, four are rated A. They include Boone, Dr. Phillips, Olympia and Winter Park. Each of last year’s four F schools raised their grades. Evans High and Oak Ridge High moved up to D grades. Oak Ridge missed a C by only one point. Orange Center Elementary and Richmond Heights Elementary both came off the list as well. At Orange Center Elementary, the teachers and staff did so well they soared all the way to an A grade. Orange Center was one of only five schools out of 81 2007 F schools in the state that improved all the way from F to A. At Richmond Heights Principal Dr. Shelia Windom said, “We elevated to a B because of the goals set by the school board and Superintendent Blocker. We put together a high performing and dedicated team who focused intensely on student achievement. The students in turn believed in their ability to learn. Our community supports Richmond Heights making a difference in the education of our students.” This from "E-News from Orange County Public Schools" https://www.ocps.net/_layouts/viewDetails.aspx?list=a7a2049d-36b3-4e96-bcfa-ab56f9aad3e2&item=84[/url] Last edited by Keeper; 07-10-2008 at 06:38 PM.. Thank you for posting this. I'm sure the naysayers will have a field day, but I have seen first hand how far Orange County has come in the last few years. I am happy to say that Orange County schools are among the best in the state - I would say it is the best of the larger districts - as proven by the results of this year's FCAT.

I was really impressed by the scores. I live in the Boone district and the elementary and middle schools in my district did well too!

Osceola county also did better on a whole. No F schools but it is still disappointing scores for our High Schools...a lot of D's. I was very impressed with Orange, Seminole and even Polk's scores.

Yes, thanks for posting this. I am so proud of our schools. Kudos to the teachers and students. I've found a lot of bright, shining stars even at the F rated schools.

My pleasure...
It seems many of the posters only thrive on negatives about Orlando. |
