Hi all!
I currently have a friend who is in the Disney college program, another friend and I plan to meet up with him after his 5 months are up. The problem is, none of us know the area very well, and we will be coming all the way from Las Vegas,NV. Another is that we will need to be extremely close to Disney, due to the lack of car for the first 6 months or so. How difficult is it to get around without a car down there? Also keep is mind that we're all "poor college students" Thanks in advance for any help. |

You can get around Orlando via bus, but it's not very easy or practical. I'd suggest that you go in together and buy an old beater car to use. We don't have state inspections, so as long as it runs, you should be ok.
Growing up in the Orlando area, I can't remember ever taking the bus anywhere. Living in Orlando isn't like living in a college on campus like UofF at Gainesville where you can get around ok without a car with a bicycle or taking the campus bus. I'm sure there are people in Orlando that use the city bus to get places. I have just never known anyone who uses the bus to commute back and forth to work. Here is the website for the bus system - I see they do have a route from downtown Orlando to the Disney Area. http://www.golynx.com/routes.cfm (broken link) |

You need a car to get around in Orlando. Like prichard said, find an old beat up car. The bus system is okay, but you would be better off w/ a car. Orlando is quite spread out.... so even getting to the grocery store or the mall can be quite a trek. Good luck!
