I went to Disney World last year and was in complete shock over how utterly detestable Orlando is. I would suggest anyone that even dare make such a laughable comparison actually belongs in Orlando!!!! Also the fact that 48 of 50 people in an Orlando forum picked Boston aught to speak volumes about what even the residents of Orlando (those that picked being there) think. They seem to despise it. If the same thing was posted on a Boston forum, I would be shocked if anyone picked Orlando unless they just absolutely hated any cold weather and made their choose just based on that.

I think anyone that is picking Orlando or any other city in Florida for a place to live is pretty aware that it is mostly sprawling newer development in a suburban environment as opposed to the more compact and older development of Boston, Philly, or NYC for example. Those cities are also much larger and thus are much more urban in nature. Boston is much more comparable to the Miami area in size as a major city than Orlando. They really are beyond compare and it is hard to advise someone on the difference between Orlando and Boston to say Orlando vs. Tampa since they are so drastically different. I think you lose a lot of credit when you question people's taste in the city they live in and use words like "detestable" to explain Orlando. By your comments I wonder if you did not just drive through Kissimmee or I-Drive to base your entire opinion of the area. There are tons of really tasteful older and newer areas around downtown Orlando and northward on the more residential side of town away from the theme parks and attractions. Even beyond the climate, I think there are several redeemable qualities and advantages to living in the area. I really do not feel like I live in a subpar area or lack any urban amenities despite it being a completely different class of city than Boston. I think Orlando as a place to live is much more comparable to other sunbelt cities like Las Vegas, Houston, Phoenix, and the other cities in Florida. I can see your point that they are uncomparable, but I think you lose credit when you question people's tastes and preferences just because they do not agree with yours. Next time you are in town, you should take a visit to Winter Park, Thornton Park, College Park, Delaney Park to see some of the older charming areas or go to Oviedo, Lake Mary, or Tuskawilla and Winter Springs to see some newer development in the area that is not all just cookie cutter sprawl.
