I also tend to local businesses for many things. I go to a small hair salon in Casselberry.....have been going there for 20 years. Since I moved from Winter Park, I have to drive all the way from south east Orlando, but it's worth it to me.

DH gets our cleaning done at the same local cleaners in Winter Park - Dommerich area for the past 20+ years. I eat pizza at Anthony's or Amelia's in Casselberry or a new place I found- a great little mom and pop place here on Lee Vista (Pasquale's) also Giovanni's is fantastic, I eat greek at Cyprianas and eat Greek and great breakfast 24 hours a day for the past 20+ years at Patsios.

DH loves the sandwiches at Cubans on the Run and the spanish food at Rolandos. There are TONS of great little mom and pop places here. Has anyone tried the mexican food at Betos or breakfast from Mom's Diner? How about the shrimp at Boston Fish House? ANYTHING at Chef Henry's Cafe. Great food at the Old Germany Restaurant - we try to get at least once a year. And this is just the tip of the iceburg! Now who said there were only chain restaurants here?

Hmm....go to the same church, the same doctors, work the same jobs, etc. etc......boy...I'm beginning to sound BORING and OLD!!! But I do have old and NEW friends, and now have time to travel more to new and interesting places. But I'm always ready to return home. DH and I have not yet found another place that 'fits' as well as the one we're blessed with in Florida.

Thejan is on a distinguished road
I used to live there. Didn't like it. But that's personal of course.

There is no real culture, downtown, or nice area to go to. People there are unfriendly, because they are living there temporarily (waiting to be moved to their next Disney assignment) and have very little ties to the area, in general. Also, all are armed. So don't argue with them.

Having said that: if you have a good supportive family and follow some of the advise, as given in previous posts, you will be fine. You'll find your way around. But don't expect any fun things to happen.

Jane.
