2. Altamonte Springs: a freakin' ANT HILL! Very packed, very crowded, lots of traffic, massive over-built. Crime is not too bad. Tons to do.

3. Orlando: very crowded, lots of urban sprawl, lots and lots of crime. Rent prices start at $1,000 for a studio in a dirt, run down, shoddy ghetto. Very expsnive to live in, you need at least $400,000+ to get a place that you feel like a human being living in. Otherwise, you will be like canned sardines on a crappy, over-rated condo. The East side of town has very few nice spots, which are sourounded by drug-infested areas. same for MetroWest. Traffic will drive you insane.

4. Kissimmee: Must speak Spanish. Culture locally dominated by Spanish people, get ready to hear people yelling in Spanish to someone three houses down from yours. Walmart speakers always blast loud Spanish music and most workers don't understand a word of English. Commuting from Kissimmee to Orlando for work will suck becasue of Disney tourism.

FYI: come here in May or December before you move. It is hot and extremely humid, you might not like it. But if you do, go with leesburg, it's nicer than the other areas you asked about.

FYI #2: Depending on your budget, consider Windermere! Lake Mary is ncie too, but again, if you work in Orlando, traffic will suck.

Mary Lou, Leesburg seems to be the top pick for a few people here. I asked about Leesburg several months ago and got the response that it was run down, but that doesn't really seem to be the case. The only problem with the Leesburg/Eustis area is that there doesn't seem to be much employment in those areas and I'm guessing that Babylegs will need to work yet. I'm still searching, but I'm beginning to think that you have to live in the larger cities to have full time employment.

Default beatin a dead horse...

Lemme get this right, you're honestly lumping Eustis in with Leesburg...Where exactly, is the point where Eustis begins and Leesburg ends my friend?
Honestly, if the original poster is still watching...From the Leesburg city limits to the furthest Eastern limit of Eustis (nicknamed "Useless") has got to be nearly 40 miles!!
Eustis is quaint but still relatively inexpensive with little to do. If your employment history includes Mechanical Engineering...Leesburg may NOT be for you, alas smokestack industries/factories are slim to none.
I love the area because of it ease of travel to absolutely wonderful nature spaces. Crystal River, Mt. Dora...flea markets!
Have fun...come on down!

Default where would we choose

Babylegs,
The places you listed vary greatly. Leesburg is what I would call rural, Altamonte Springs is a large burb, Kissimmee is a town south. and I think Orlando general was your forth.
Orlando is made up of many different areas from slums to 12M + it has many things to do and is close to so many areas. Kissimmee is a varied town with some good and bad. it trends to have lower property values. Altamonte is a crowded burb with homes that need reno. Leesburg? - why?

As to my favorite choices - money no object - Vizcaya, Alaqua, and certain areas of Windermere( down Point Lane). Isleworth is too stuffy for my taste but it is stunning, no doubt and would be considered the nicest place here.
My favorite home in the area is at the tip of Down Point with water on 3 sides and a gated compound. It is stunning. and last I saw was available for 9M...ouch. I love the lake front homes, well on some lakes. There are many great options here, in all price ranges and for all tastes. It is a great place to be and a great buyers market for awesome deals. Good Luck. and I hope you love Orlando as much as I do.

Hold on there! If you're really a citygirl, you will not be happy in Altamonte. It used to be the sticks until someone dumped a bunch of chain restraunts and a mall there. You would be happy with MetroWest or downtown. Its not $1,000 for a studio like someone else said. I pay $1125 for a one bedroom with a loft (which can be used as an office or another bedroom),high ceilings in one of the nicer places in MetroWest. You can a get 2 bdrm in my complex for the same price. Contrary to what you have heard, crime has bottomed out in MetroWest since the developer put a new system in place. Virtually no crime now. There are also a few nice highrises in Down Town, but rents go up a bit. Check out craig's list for the Vue and the Waverly. These are condos, but a lot of them are for rent.

East orlando; ie Waterford Lakes is also OK; dependign where you are working, as the commute can be bad due to traffic.

If you really are a city girl, you will not like anything outside of Orlando proper.

AONE says "Altamonte is a crowded burb with homes that need reno."

Excuse me? all the homes need reno? please don`t generalize the whole town on a few homes here and there that need work.

I have friends and family that live there and the houses are fine in most areas of altamonte.

Someone else said east Orlando is full of drug infested areas well not entirely true there are some yes but it`s not as bad as the poster made it sound.

Default Orlando rent

You can find great rental rates right now on homes all over Orlando and beyond. People who can't sell are renting just to cover mortgages or even less. I agree that downtown sounds like the place for you or just near downtown it's nice to be a little further unless you work in downtown it's a pain to get in and out much of the time. In general there are pockets of good (and bad) neighborhoods in all the areas just look around. For me money no object I'd be near downtown Winter Park or College Park I love the older homes there and the mature landscaping. I would not want my property touching a lake, lake view from across the street great. There are way too many critters and mosquitos to be right on the water.
