The most current I could find.
AFT - Press Center - Press Releases - 2004 Teacher Salary Survey Map I do know that in CT it is not that uncommon for teachers with advanced degrees and 15+ years under their belt to be making 6 figure salaries. I have family members who are teachers in Orange County. One of them is in their 2nd year and about to get a masters and will be making slightly over 40k (ESE teacher). The other is elementary in their first year and I don't think makes 40k. But back on topic, I think 20 per hour with 40 hour week is good if you are single. If you are supporting a spouse I still think it's OK if you are good with money. Enter children into the picture and you will be hard pressed to be able to live in a safe neighborhood with good schools on that salary. |

I couldn't live where I am on less than $30. hr. That would mean I have to cut back on my Gym membership (Not a good idea for long term health) I would like to keep that membership. I tried the at home routune and home equipment route but don't have much room if any for that stuff in the house and I need the incentive of going to the gym to keep at it. I'd have to give up my Cable tv premium stations, HD, roadrunner internet., Give up my car and settle for a much older model (there goes my fun factors). Never eat out again (I do it 1 x a week or less). Stay at home for a vacation (if any vacation at all). Give up my life insurance policy. Possibly sell my house (3/2 1600 sq ft) and move to a small 2/2 condo for under $200K.
I would probably survive on that hourly wage than without suffering. |

The relation between what you make is directed related
on your expenses... DailyJournalist, I am not sure why is so hard for you to believe kingtodd is making that kind of money. I have made over 40k a year since my early 20's(I am almost 40) in Florida. |

I am earning that amount, was simply curious if others thought that was a decent wage given what we always here about low pay in FL. When I was living back in Michigan I was earning almost $55K annually so to me this was a pay cut. I'll decline to say who/where I work other than I'm employed in the I.T. field. ![]() |

My son is 25 - employed in high tech field and makes 60+ in his first year after graduation. His mentor makes well into the six figures. DS was around 20+ an hour working in IT and/or software engineer while still in school at UCF.
Regarding teachers....our contract is for 40 weeks. Forty hours a week times 40 weeks is 1600 hours times 20 would be $32,000 a year. I don't know of any teachers in Orange or Seminole County making less than that now. If I'm not mistaken, starting salaries here for teachers is between $33,000 and $37,000. Experienced teachers make well into the $40Ks. However, OP didn't ask for yearly salary....he asked for an amount per hour. While teachers put in many extra hours - they are paid for an 8 hour day - 40 weeks per year. That doesn't even count our 2 weeks off at Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and other holidays. Those are paid vacations. Sure, I could make more by working year round in another profession, but this is one reason I LOVE teaching. I've been off all summer! |
