I've read lots of different reports of when the love bugs appear. When is the worst time to visit Orlando, and could you avoid them in the water parks if the love bug seaon changed slightly and you were on holiday there at the time

I've lived in Florida (Tampa and Orlando) for a total of 27 years and never been bothered by the love bugs but a couple of times. I will usually see a few of them plastered to my car's windshield sometime during May or September but they have never interrupted or interfered with any outdoor activity. I do remember once or twice having them fly around me - and be a bothersome pest, but twice in all these years isn't much.

May and Sept are the worst months...as pianogal mentioned they're annoying at best....by car, you just need to wash it more. Now if you travel by motorcycle, that's a whole different story.

I remember the worst being in May. Some years seem to be very bad while other years they never seem to be a problem at all. I think it was 1-2 years ago that I was driving from Orlando to Melbourne at high speeds and we had to pull over multiple times to wash my window because I couldn't see and the grill of my car to make sure I was getting air flow. It was very bad that year. Every few years it seems like they are very bad.

I found this post quite interesting. I just moved to Orlando and was not aware of "Love bugs" and the nuisance they bring. i did my own research Lovebugs in Florida ..very interesting. I just bought a car, the last thing I need is for the paint to chip if I don't wash these little critters off.
Thanks OP. |

I've never been bothered by them too much either unless you drive at high speeds on an open road near a lot of wooded areas. We drove to Ft. Lauderdale one May and couldn't see out the window by the time we got there. I also remember being at Friendly Confines in Waterford Lakes one September. My friends and I were trying to enjoy the warm evening outside on the patio. There were tons of Lovebugs everywhere and landing all over us. We had to leave the patio and go inside.

We were on the bike and went down RT 33 from Groveland to Polk City. We had to get off twice to clean off our glasses and I swear we crunched when we walked.
We decided we were a Lovebug Graveyard. I think that trip was the end of Sept last year. We took the same route on Sunday and didn't get hit by one bug. |
