Good post! Come on now NG.....murdered in the street! What an extreme exaggeration. I agree about the Spanish thing but like AJ said they are 99.9% legal citizens. Its a give and take situations - you pay less for living but the quality of life suffers a bit but not in a dangerous sort of way.

Ha ha ha.... you are naive enough to believe 99.9% of the people who just "appeared" here are legal?!?!

That is funny.... I gotta tell the people at the office. Friend, I worked with Immigration law for years.... 99.9% of these people are ILLEGAL. You are just giving them too much credit.

Plus, the crime is out of control. The Spanish music blasting loud. The streets are disgusting, filled with litter and trash.
Very depressing.

Kissimmee / Poinciana is horrible.

Sorry but your stats on Poinciana are just plain wrong. I work down there frequently and DO NOT speak Spanish! I have no trouble getting along in Poinciana.

Races in Poinciana: (from City-data.com driectly)

White Non-Hispanic (39.9%)
Hispanic (39.5%)
Black (17.7%)
Other race (9.9%)
Two or more races (5.7%)
American Indian (1.0%)
(Total can be greater than 100% because Hispanics could be counted in other races)

Sorry to disagree Dee but I think those stats are a little dated. (probably from the 2000 census - correct me if I am wrong Mods). If you look at the stats for the schools there you will see that most of the schools have a 65% Hispanic enrollment. This reflects the population in Poinciana more accurately now. I am in Poinciana at least once a week and definitely come across a problem with people not being able to speak English. But they do not treat me badly nor do I feel like an outcast - however it is just an annoyance more than anything and BVL is a lot worse.

NG it is almost all Puerto ricans with a smaller population of Cubans who are all here LEGALLY. That might not be the case in all areas of the Spanish population here in Central Florida but it is in Poinciana. The Polk County side of Poinciana's crime is not bad but there are dangerous areas in the older section.

Poinciana is more like 90% hispanic or latino now. I was in poinciana less than a month ago and i did not hear 1 word spoken in the english language there. Everyone was looking at me because i am white and it was the strangest thing. I am not joking.

I never saw any black people in the area, so where is the 17%? I only saw Spanish people. I think i saw one white couple, but again, they could be latino too.

The area is no longer with green acres with horses. It 's all built up and very dirty too, if I may add. everyone seemed uptight and i saw several gangster-looking types- tattoos all over, wraps on the head, everyone in the car staring at you.... loud music, riding a Caddy. Not a good place for out of town folks. I strongly advise anyone not from the area to stay away from poinciana.

Oh and i kept getting cut off and being flipped at because I am on an RV. I drive fast, but it was all the same. Rude people dominate that area. kissimme as well.

Summer humidity is 75-80, winter is 50 percent, sometimes lower. The mornings are always more humid than daytime. It's not unusual to see fog in the "spring" in Florida in the mornings.

Oh, and about Poinciana... I don't know crap about it. But I will tell you alot of places like Paramore etc that get badmouthed, are not so bad. Yes, there is a little crime but Orlando on the whole is not the worst city in the US for crime. There are cities/areas with much worse crime in the US. And in my experience few people in Orlando don't speak English. The hispanic residents usually speak very good English and are bilingual. It is usually the people from Jamaica and Haiti, I have found, who are incomprehensible.

In my experience hispanics are one of the few things "not bad" about Central Florida. They are great people, especially Cubans, and usually have some degree of roots here, which is more than I can say for alot of people who live in Central Florida. (I'd rather have them here than the "damn yankees" who come down here and raise a stink because it's not exactly like the Joysey they left- no gun buyback programs, no "upscale" restaurants(Outback or Chiles is upscale? Since When?), not enough Nordstroms or IKEA's, etc. I have to admit I'm not fond of illegal immigration but most hispanics in Central Florida are not illegals, unlike much of the rest of the country- Puerto Rico is part of the US and Cubans are entitled to refugee status. The only illegals are like in Apopka working in agriculture. If you meet somebody in the grocery store speaking Spanish odds are better they are from Puerto Rico, Cuba, or Miami. And they are usually friendly people too- I'd rather see an older hispanic woman or man behind a counter than some white kid in college who thinks movin' on up off the backs of taxpayers and mommy and daddy is cool, the latter ones usually have a dozen reasons to give you a hard time and can't follow directions and have no work ethic.

There are some poor people but you know I have gone to some of the "bad" areas in town and never been knifed or shot- in fact one of my favorite Chinese restaurants is in one of these areas. You just have to be smart and not do stupid stuff. There is far, far more petty crime in your average European city. The crime in a place like Orlando you have to take hand in hand with actually having real people with real problems in a city. Places like Avalon Park and some neighborhoods of Winter Park- they are full of fake people who medicate their problems and kids away, who have enough money they have any problems they pay somebody to fix it.

Though, I have to admit once I was really pissed because I went into a Target, went ot the bathroom, and somebody had taken a dump on the floor.... I just left, even if I had to go, I just thought that was disgusting. And it was in a bad part of town. But just because you see a few brown people working at a job or shopping, and not speaking English, doesn't mean it's a bad neighborhood you should never, ever live in or visit.

IMO, Hillsborough county is worse than Orlando. It's a real dump. People who live there are willing to put up with a long, boring stop-and-go drive to downtown Tampa, the traffic is horrible. The roads and towns have no planning, because they are unincorporated. It is just one eyesore after another. There is even less interest in things like bicycling there than in Orlando (the roads are frankly suicidal for it, what with the big highway going through the town). In comparison, the worst parts of Orlando look much better. My parents have a house out in Brandon but I hope they sell it soon because it's such a nasty place compared to when I was a kid.

I don't question City-data's stats since Poinciana is more than just the areas most people think it to be. Solivita, Trafalgar Village Doral Woods, Crestview Lakes, Isles of Bellalago, and countless other communities are part of Poinciana too. All those subdivisions on Poinciana Blvd are part of Poinciana. In fact, just yesterday a Doral Woods resident told me he didn't want to live in Poinciana and I informed him that he already did live there. He had no clue that subdivision was considered Poinciana.

To the poster who was flipped off, has that only happened to you in Poinciana? I doubt it! It's really silly to classify an area as "bad" because that happened! That's happend to me all over the Country!

There still is acreage for sale there but not like 20 years ago. Of course, there aren't many areas that look like they did years ago!

Will all the new development in that area, housing will continue to boom down there in that little town that Avatar built!

Poincianas Grew way to big way to fast and now the people that have been here for a long time are feeling the effects of their once quiet hamlet become a buslting city virtually over night.. there is alot of adjustments that need to be made....

and as for the Target its GOING up behind Walgreens Near Solvita
I am just amazed at what I consider absolutely ridiculous whining about Poinciana. I have lived in 6 different states and for the last 20 years in Texas (you know the other state that has alot of "illegals"). I moved to Florida a year ago. I am sure we can all agree that pretty much no matter where you live each area has a "good" part of town and a "bad" part of town. I live in Solivita behind the so called "Wall". The houses run from very simple to elegant without being absurdly large. It is a very nice community. There are gated communities across the US. Sometimes I think the people who bad mouth these communities are the ones who are jealous because they wish they were living there. But then again gated communities are not for everyone. I could careless one way or another whether where I live is gated, I just liked the floorplan of the house. Walmart is the place I go for groceries and just about anything else I need and have no problem with the people there nor the prices. They are comparable to other Walmarts I have shopped at in other areas and states. I have not come across the supposedly rude Puerto Ricans or any other ethnic group for that matter. Let's face it all ethnic groups have rude people. Yes traffic is a bit crazy but that is to be expected in a town with expanded growth. So just leave a little earlier to get where you need to go .....is that so hard? I suggest to anyone who is looking to move to any area to do their research and don't just go by what is posted on a forum because there are intelligent people making honest comments and then there are those that well.....you know.

Move to Poinciana/Kiss.... your life will be horrible. The area is the pits, not just the illegals, it's dirty, busy, VERY noisey, and not to mention dangerous. It is violent and disgusting.

I pity the fool who move to Kiss/Poinciana. *making a Mr. T face*
