In response to the comment about whether or not Poincy is or is not going to become a city... frankly that is irrelevant, IMO. Poincy is basically an inner-city ghetto now, except there are no high rises. Only someone who truly dislikes himself or herself would move there now. I strong advise people to stay away from Poincy. That was a good community gone bad. |

Traveling Dude has JET LAG and its gone to his HEAD...
If Poinciana is Really that Bad... then why oh why are people still moving in here ? and there not "GANGS" Solivita has no gangs.. and it is expanding even more ... the only thing wrong with Poinciana is AVATAR..and is MISMANAGEMENT and its UNDERplanning of the "Masterplanned Community"... If your so worried about the Hispanics being around ..Get use to it . I challenge you to find a Middle class area that has NO hispanics... the truth is there is'nt one on the Central Florida area.. they come here for the Jobs...Most of them are hard working ... like most of us ... Embrace them, because you will be alone if you do not !@ |

We moved to Poinciana in Dec 2000. We left in Dec 2004. It was the WORST time of my life. We bought our house site unseen and didn't know exactly where it was located, we went by what the Avatar agents and our realtor were telling us. 30 minutes to Orlando my rear! By helicopter maybe.
When we first moved there it was beautiful, the area didn't have too much growth at this point and then it just started booming. I had 2 children in school and after the first year I refused to send them back to Poinciana schools. I carted them 20 miles each way to a better school. The traffic is horrendous. There were so many times that we couldn't get out of Poinciana because an accident would close down the road and there is basically no other way out. We had some nice neighbors and some not so nice neighbors. A ryder truck pulled up and emptied about 50 people out of the back. They turned the garage into an apartment, I know so one else had mentioned this. The govt there sucked, they did nothing for anyone. I am so glad we got out, we now live in Central Upstate NY and I love it. I wouldn't move there. In fact we have friends that are Hispanic that are trying to get out. I am so glad we sold our house when we did, that is about the only thing that I miss, my house! |

I agree, Poinciana is the PITS....I wish I could move to north Florida and fell under the spell of Avatar (loser) and bought. We are stuck and the traffic is horrendous; no shopping; tons of foreigner's, however, they are nice to us. My husband was the one who wanted to buy out there and I obliged. Big mistake. I do all my shopping via the internet and have it delivered to the front door since it takes an hour to get to decent shopping....If I we had the crystal ball back then...

Yes, I to travel to Winter Haven and it is night and day compared to leaving Poinciana and traveling to MCO. One day I will take that route to 1-4 just to see if it shaves off miles and time. There is a tranquility that overcomes you when you head to WH. You view all the open land and realize that someday it will be sucked up by developers. I just hope we aren't here when that transpires. We moved from So.Fla a few years back and, from what I hear, are lucky we got out when we did. I just fear that it won't be easy to do the same again where we anchored ourselves. Plus, we are in a gated adult living community which will make it harder, unless, the northerner's are fed-up w/the nasty winters and want to make Fla. their home. Thanks for your empathy...no one to blame but ourselves

We do most of our shopping in Winter Haven and even Dundee...I REFUSE To go to the Poinciana walmart...and the Win Dixxie out here is the PITS they never NEVEr have their advertised sales there....I think there are alot of ANGRY people In Poinciana...
My house is up for sale and we want to move to Winter Haven.. But there are FAR to many homes on the Market now in Poinciana so i have no faith that we will sell... There are Far to many homes that are Foreclosed on here also which is not good for the price and value of my home.... we are settled to stay here , for a while until the market gets better...I have a Beautiful Home on a half acre with a Beautiful pool .. I will just stay in my own little Paradise and not let the Poinciana outside world bother me . I also do not send my child to the Schools out here.. he goes to a private school in Haines City .. and is doing wonderful !... The stories i have heard about the public schools out here make my stomach turn... Alot of people from the north move here because of the better weather but they don;t realize the Stuff they give up when the move.. I feel bad for these people ....that have to send their children to the public school.... Poinciana was at one time afordable for all types of people....now its not so much... and Winter Haven is Not that afordable ...and we are willing to make sacrafices so that we can live there...if ever ..and hopefully it will stay less afordable so that the RIFF RAFF in poinciana can not move there@ |

AJ67 we love our new home however, we didn't get a pool and regret it now. We always had one in So.Fla. I suppose no roof will ever make anyone happy; it's whats inside that does. I couldn't wait to move here and bamm, what a reality check we had after the move.....It is like residing in Hialeah, Fl...If only there was more intrastates...it drives me nuts how far behind Central Fl. is....It is all about 1-4...plzzz......We think these commissioner's are all on Whacky-Tabacky. Do you have your home listed w/a Realtor? We don't have our's listed since we have only been here for almost 2 years. The market will come back someday; when is the Million Dollar question .

You are so right...Avatar is the one who is ruining this entire area. It has so much potential, but he just squashes everyone who wants to bring businesses here.. He wants a big kick back from all of them and they tell him to pound salt...Great Clips Hair Salon is closing it's doors out here cause Avatar is raising their lease to 5k a month. He is a Nightmare.
