Got Job in Longwood - Need short term rental - Where to look?
My husband has accepted a job offer in Longwood and so we're going relocate there asap. We are listing our house in Virginia and I will follow with the kids once it sells. Until then, he will need short-term housing.
Where should we look? Extended stay hotels are very expensive. We'd like to find something as cheap as possible since it's just him who's going to be staying there. He's willing to rent just a room or sublet for a month (hopefully the house will sell before then...our real estate market still is fine).
Any ideas?
And, once we're there we're looking at buying near Longwood. Any recommendations for areas with good schools that are still affordable (like under $140K for a house, condo, or townhome). I'm reading through some past threads, but thought I'd ask here as well.
Thank you so much for any advice. He only has 2 weeks to find somewhere to live.

craigslist. Look under sublets. Look in Lake Mary, Longwood, Altamonte and Sanford.

It will be very difficult for your husband to find a rental for only one month. If that is truly what your looking for, he will most likely have to move into a weekly/monthly apartment. Most of these are in poor neighborhoods with high crime rates.
As far as anything in the $140's, if your looking for great neighborhoods with excellent schools for you children, you may find a condo in the Sabal Point area of Longwood. Not sure what age your children are, but Sabal Point Elementary through Lyman High are great schools.
You can possibly find a decent home in Sanford close to the price range you are looking. No matter what you decide, STAY IN SEMINOLE COUNTY for your children's sake. The school system is leaps and bounds above Orange County schools.
As I have stated in some of my other posts, Kim Best is a great realtor for a home, and Elizabeth Petters is great for rentals.

Look in the Lake Mary/Heathrow or Atlamonte areas for an extended stay hotel. Other than that your other option to try craigslist as someone else mentioned. They do occasionally have short term rentals on there. Even if it's listed for longer than a month I would try asking if they would accept a one month renter. I would think that most people would be open to getting paid for a month while still looking for a longterm renter.

Hi,
As other poster said, try Craigslist, Orlando. We had kind of the same situation–wherein my husband came down sooner, and I agree, extended stay hotel/motels in the area are quite expensive. I am not sure of Longwood, but I do know in the Altamonte Springs area you can get furnished short term apartments that are all inclusive–include utilities and cable and even internet. Do expect to pay more in a mth for the place --then you would under a normal rent situation, since it is short term–without a extended lease--but it is doable. Altamonte Springs is only about 5 miles from Longwood–if that. We live in Altamonte Springs, and our daughter attends school in Longwood. Good luck.
