Default So....should I stay here in Philly or move there to Orlando area....

A little tongue in cheek really, but I was reading the Charlotte/Orlando thread..lol

What would be the advantages of my moving to your state then?
What do you see as disadvantages? Now, don't tell me crime...cause I live ten minutes outside of Philadelphia, and have a permit to carry. - which I understand is reciprocal with your state...yes? LOL

So, tell me, regale me with what I can expect? I have been to Disney several times since it opened in 1972, but I am now 42, with a family...engage me please....

Awww..no one? LOL...

I come from a very fast paced environment,...everyone is in a rush to 'hurry up and wait' as I call it.....is it the same there?

I am from the city of brotherly love, but ...no one loves you here unless you are a ...well..let me not say it....everyone hates everyone around here anymore....how is the people climate there? People will just as soon run you over for a parking space at the mall here...sheesh!

Its very industrial and blue collar here, altho we are a white collar family, and I don't mind living in a blue collar area one bit. I like teaching my child that any day's work is a good days work no matter what you do for a living...how about there? Spoiled rich kids? Spoiled poor kids? good kids? respectful kids? Nasty kids?

I am a Girl Scout leader here and we are quite active in my area, how about down there...active scouts around town? I would love to plug right into that if so....

What can I expect?? Help me out...I am getting a little anxious....lol

My husband is from Philly and I've been there plenty of times. If it were up to me, I'd much rather be in FL than Philly.

I moved to Daytona Beach, Florida for college from Philly. that was 1999. Moved to Orlando in 2003. I left Orlando to go to Denver in 2007, I'm currently looking to move back to Orlando with the fiance (shes from Philly too).

Yes, you can find a good cheesesteak and Tastykakes here, Not exactly Genos/Pats/Jims, but if you are homesick, it'll be good enough to make you realize you are in a better place than being stuck on the Schuylkill Expressway.(You'll just be stuck on I-4 or the 408 instead).

What they think is ghetto/crime areas (mainly Pine Hills and South Orlando ish area) in Orlando is a joke to what we Philly people think (they've never been up Broad St in North Philly at 2am on some side street). You'll definately be fine here. The kids here are your typical teenage bunch. Nothing too extreme or unrespectful, but there are some goofballs mixed it with the smarts. The kind you'd see at the Gallery on a Friday night don't usually come out of their hoods in Orlando. A lot of people in Orlando think its rude and dirty, but I think its the opposite. I think people are generally nicer (though a little reserved sometimes) and way more laid back. I always thought life in Orlando was way more laid back than it is in Philly. And Florida is usually awake 24/7 (in a good way), there is almost always something to do whenever. I used to shrudder when I got off the airplane from Orlando to Philly, and couldn't wait to get back to FL.

Welcome with the CCW, Florida became literally a "shoot first ask later" state overnight.

What about Krimpets? I know Publix has some Tastykakes, but not them. When I go to Philly, I feel like I have to have a constant eye out. It feels alot more dangerous than here. I also think it's a joke when ppl say they feel that way about Sanford. LOL I'm totally comfortable when I go to Sanford. It's alot cleaner here and the people are alot nicer, not rude. Jersey Mikes in Laek Mary makes an awesome cheesesteak. Schools are much better too.

Publix They actually make a decent Italian Hoagie!

Try Brianto's Cheesesteaks in Avalon Park below Waterford Lakes/UCF. I see they have Krimpets too. You can also order Krimpets from tastykake website.

Has Orlando changed much since I left there in 2006? I heard somethings have changed, but more remained the same.

Krimpets on website are $37 for 24. I'll definately scope Publix again. I don't shop there usually. I don't think that there is much change with Orlando, except from what I heard more Puerto Ricans moved in. So alot of Spanish speaking population. As far as the suburbs, I'm in Lake Mary. It's grown alot. We got alot more stores and restaurants. Over by the Seminole Towne Center in Sanford, there is a bunch of new things. Car lots, shopping, Walmart, restaurants, and everthing in betwee. I see all this stuff as a good thing.

OH...great! I am glad to hear some 'home' perspective! Its great when I know exactly where you are coming from...

As for the Tastykakes.... I realllly neeeeed to get away from those..LOL!! We are looking into the Lake Mary area, so good to hear you are happy there!

Of course the schools would be better than Philly's...they couldn't be worse, the state had to take them over a couple years ago...doesn't get much worse than that!!! But I live in the burbs and our schools are pretty decent..but no a/c so there are a few uncomfortable weeks of school...LOL...I bet you all have a/c in all your schools!

Well...it all sounds great...no one recommends I stay here...what the heck! LOL! I have lived here all my life and didn't realize how bad it was! Thanks for the input!!!

Don't let the door hit you in the **s! Come on down and see how you like it. The only complaint I have is that I wish it wasn't so hot for so long. Hope you don't mind it. I know in Philly it can get really hot with nowhere to go. Otherwise, I love everthing else. The winters are awesome. We have the beaches 40 minutes away and also the Springs to cool off. Everthing has a/c. I think you're making a wise choice by picking Lake Mary. We have everthing with-in a 5 mile radius.

Well, I hope I don't mind it either...but a poolhouse is in the deal...no pool..no deal...we have a pool here...little tiny above ground 4 ft deal...but its cool , ya know!

The hubby's job offer will be in Winter Park, and I am not sure I wish to live in such an eclectic area - and I am reading that the traffic through there to get to Orlando is troublesome, so I was looking peripheral to Winter Park. So on the list was Lake Mary, Winter Springs, Oviedo (all per recommendations on this board..thanks so much) and I am getting a little nervous with the whole 'community ' things you have going on down there. It looks like some places are entire entities unto themselves...with their own schools, ans shopping etc....like Avalon Park was recommended , and I saw Lake Nona recommended...is that the normal way of life down there? That is extremely foreign to me.

How is that? I don't have too many friendly neighbors here , and I am a very friendly person myself and would love to have more, but that seems a little odd to me...does anyone live in that sort of communty? If so, how do you like it?
