Default Orlando's crime...

I have friends that live in downtown Orlando near Lake Eola...Orlando only had 48 murders in 2006...I am in Charlotte, NC and we had 85...just to show you guys that crime is everywhere. We are no longer a small town either...700,000 people in city and 2.1 million in Metro area. We have car jackings, murders, roberies....the whole gamut...but usually they are concentrated in certain areas of town...and like my mother taught me years ago...if you look hard enough for trouble...you can usually find it.

GOD BLESS all of you

My mother has lived in Orlando for 13 years now and she is delighted with the place. Never has told me anything outstanding about crime in that particular area. Crime is everywhere. If you are going to judge a city by its crime rate you wouldn't live anywhere in the world.

Aha!! He is hyping up Orlando and Kissimmee to try and drum up some business, as the local Orlando-Kissimmee real estate market is in disarray!

But then again most minorities in this country are poor so it's easy to chalk it up soley to race. I'm not unrealistic. 8 of city-data's least safe cities are predominately black. But I've been to Orlando numerous times to play golf and have never had a problem. I've been to citywalk, disney and some local bars, never a problem. Unfortunately Orlando is what we would classify as a city. Guess what, cities have crime. Move out to the country if you want to try to escape societies ills. Good luck thinking you'll be completely safe out there. ps. Tampa's crime rating is higher than Orlando's....
That is 22 murders in INCORPORATED city of Orlando. Most of people live outside the incorporated city area. I think in the Orlando Metro area there were almost 100 murders. But murders are just the tip of the iceberg in Orlando. The brig problems are rapes, abductions, and home invasions. These are extremely serious, violent crimes. Crajacking is so common I have seen at least 2 people in gas stations and 1 at a traffic light get grabbed and tossed on the street by some crackhead and the crackhead just drives off. At least they are nice to get you out of the car rather than kidnap you. But that happens too.

Philly is very bad, but Philly is MUCH bigger than Orlando, let's not forget that.

And here is the worst part: we have the Orlando Police Dept, an extremely incompetent police dept. We have Sheriff Kevin Beary who has been the focus of God knows how many corruption and political scandals in the last few years and he is still there. Then we have Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, who is a complete moron who only cares about expanding the Orlando area so TD Waterhouse, a private company can reap the benefits of taxpayer-funded expansion to their privately-owned area. Dyer is such an idiot, this guy REFUSES to allocate more funds to combate crime or build roads.... so there you have it. One incompetent PD, a corrupt Sheriff, and a moronic mayor only cares nothing of safety, only helping the rich get richers.

Welcome to Orlando.

About 125 in Orange County. Thats worse than the 89 we had in Broward, yet we have about 400,000 more people. Orlando is getting out of control. I like nothing about Orlando anymore. It used to be so nice 15 years ago too...probably has a lot to do with us transplants...

Hello I move from NY to Orlando Florida, and yes the crime is bad depending on what part of orlando you go to. There is a part in orlando called Pines Hills better known as Crime Hills. Yes you hear about crime everywhere, but I find Orlando to be bad very bad I just moved from an apartment complex called Caribbean Keys in Orlando right by the Millenia Mall ( a rich peoples mall) and it's looks so beautiful but a few months ago a kid got killed, people have gotten mugged and shot at. I am sorry but you should move to Kissimmee, or Port ST Lucie it's nice out that way and if you don't believe me just go to orlandosentinel.com and read for yourself what I am talking about.
Good Luck and take care of yourself, I just move close to the airport got away from that part of town.

3 things: orlando is not very , very safe. also, 22 murders were in 2005. do more research. lastly, if you watch the news here in orlando, you tell me who is doing all these crimes. there's a common theme here.

ps- kissimmee is not a good place, emigirl. psl is much better.

Yeah, the poor are doing all of these crimes! Mostly minorities are "poor" in the Orlando area.

My county is minority-majority. How come we had about 25 less murders yet we had about 400,000 more people? The simple answer is poverty does not cross any particular ethnic line here, except a couple of your poorer black communities here or there.

queen city lover, i lived in nc and been to charlotte many times. charlotte, in general, is safer than orlando.

you all may have had 85 murders, and i think we had 46 in orlando. but you all have 700k ppl, we have about 185k ppl. based on crime in orlando, if we had 700k ppl, that would mathematically equte to us having about 175 murders. based on per capita basis

Orlando like any city will continue to reap what we plant. Broad generalizations don't help solve the problems. The problems you mention are not happening all over Orlando, only in select places. The thing is, yes, we can move away and maybe solve those problem for ourselves (maybe not). Alternatively, if we plan on staying here we can DO something about fixing the problems. I'm personally getting more involved in my community and working on helping to change things. There are many positive things that good people can do to move our city in the right direction.

Some have complained that Buddy Dyer and the police aren't doing anything about crime. Baloney. All of our officials are becoming well aware that crime is on the rise and most I know of are doing their best to fix it. The police above all are out there every day busting their butts and risking their necks keeping the rest of us safe. Orlando will only go to hell if we all sit back and allow it to happen. One thing everyone can do is get informed when election times roll around and let your voice be heard. We've got to get tough on crime and elect judges who will enforce the law. We have to get competent people elected to the school boards to be able to lead the next generation to a successful future. Anybody can complain. What are we doing about it?

Our problem neighborhoods have to be turned around one at a time so that crime is reduced. It's been proven in city after city that when neighborhood residents get fed up and start getting active they can indeed turn things around for the better. It takes a lot of people doing a little bit to make a difference. Support Habitat for Humanity and the Orlando Rescue Mission, people that are working to give hope and change things for the better. If we don't do something than all we're doing by complaining is contributing to global warming with our hot air!

Default Hello...Backtofla

Where did you live in North Carolina? I grew up in Winston-Salem and that is where my parents still live....Winston-Salem also has about 185K people and they had 48 murders last year...similar to Orlando.

Raleigh is VERY safe...they have about 335K in the city and only had like 23 murders last year...but also boring with nothing to do...but if you have a family or retired...a nice safe place to live.

Crime & murders are everywhere...we have lived in inner city Washington, DC and inner city Atlanta...and NEVER had a problem...granted we lived in very nice areas...but things happen in those parts of town too.

We will be moving to South Florida in a few years...Sunny Isles (a section of Miami Beach) only a few miles from Aventura...but we don't have blinders on...you have to watch your back 24/7...no matter where you are now a days.

We have also toyed with moving to Palm Beach...our friends live in Manalapan (supposedly the wealthiest ZIP code in Florida) so our friends say...but can't afford to live there...maybe Wellington area.
