Move to Sunny Isles. Thats the only section of Miami-Dade county that I would actually live. Wellington is mostly for families/suburban. Very very nice though.

Hello fort Lauderdale & backtofla...
We fell in love with Sunny Isles years back...and only considered Wellington due to being close to our friends in Manalapan (can't afford to live in Manalapan)...Haven't found any section of Broward that really strikes us...and I am sure there are some nice areas. Asheville has changed drastically...it is become very artsy fartsy bohemiam...and quite expensive and the crime and drug activity has tripled in Asheville proper...my father was born and raised in Asheville and I have lots of relatives in Asheville...what use to be vacant storefronts in downtown Asheville...are now restaurants, coffee shops, artist galleries & shops...I think it has changed for the better...except the crime & drugs...but where hasn't that increased? Any nice sections of Broward...relatively safe and not far from beach?...so far Sunny Isles has our hearts...personally think it is the BEST section of Miami-Dade...Palm Beach County is nice...but not the Boca type...OH...do like Las Olas area of FLL. |

How about Coral Springs? Only 9 other American cities are safer, and you are about 10-15 minutes to the beach. It's bland/suburban, but you have some nice restaurants and such right in town, and even a performing arts center. Maybe a charming older or historical neighborhood in Hollywood east of U.S.1? Downtown Hollywood is really funky and interesting, and your like RIGHT by the beach, and Hollywood beach is beautiful because it's not too high-rise and has a nice broadwalk with restaurants/bars along. Maybe Weston?Upscale suburban area, kind of like Wellington but more dense/resorty,mind numbingly low crime, and a 20 minute freeway ride to Fort Lauderdale. How about Plantation? It's a little further east from Weston, and is known for its shade trees and unique look. Very nice as well. If I were you, I would move to Palm Beach Gardens in Palm Beach County. Thats a BEAUTIFUL area. |

here is the proof! in 2007 orlando made it to the most dangerous cities list and number 11 to be exact. Most Dangerous U.S. Cities, 2007 1. Detroit, Michigan 2. St. Louis, Missouri 3. Flint, Michigan 4. Oakland, California 5. Camden, NJ 6. Birmingham, Alabama 7. North Charleston, South Carolina 8. Memphis, Tennessee 9. Richmond, California 10. Cleveland, OH 11. Orlando, FL 12. Balitmore, MD 13. Little Rock, Arkanas 14. Compton, CA 15. Youngstown, OH 16. Cinnicinati, OH 17. Gary, Indiana 18. Kansas City, MO 19. Dayton, OH 20. Newark, NJ 21. Philadelphia, PA 22. Atlanta, GA 23. Jackson, MO 24. Buffalo, NY 25. Kansas City, KS NOTE: Cities with 75,000+ population. The rankings are based on a city's rate for six crime categories: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft. Source: www.cqpress.com. These are cold, hard facts! Statistics. What you perceive as being unsafe and what IS ACTUALLY unsafe are too different things. I have lived here for three years and in that span of time my car has been broken into twice and my friend was raped and stabbed in our schools "overflow" parking lot. I have lived all over the United States and the world and I'm telling you that Orlando is the only place that I carry pepper spray around with me all the time. For those of you who say it isn't safe...you must live in the suburbs on the East Side near UCF or Thornton Park. Just take a drive downtown past paramor...oh, and one day i did take a drive down washington past paramore on my way to night class. this story is when my thoughts changed on Orlando's safety and crime... I was driving to school by myself minding my own business enjoying the music and the beautiful weather. All of a sudden out of nowhere a strange, nervous man rides his bike up to my car. My window was open at this point and he asked me for some money. I politely explained to him that I didn't have any to spare but if I did I would most certainly give some away. I don't know if he was having a bad day or just tired of people telling him no but he punched me in the face and took off on his bike. I was in complete shock and never made it to class that night because the left side of my face was completely black and blue and swollen. I had to file a police report and they never found the guy that did it. I no longer take that way to school. I completely avoid Valencia West Campus now because of all the crime that takes place on that side of town and on campus. It's ridiculous that a 30 year old women can't walk alone without feeling like she is in danger and I was born and raised in Philly! This IS a dangerous town and for those of you who think it is not you are completely oblivious. Last edited by orangeyaglad; 04-22-2008 at 05:04 PM.. |

Sorry to say but it`s true. Just the other day I was on Oakridge and OBT going back to the office to drop off the truck whan a dude on the side of the road starts yelling to me hey papi! papi! roll down your window I just kept driving because honestly this guy looked like trouble. |

Didn't anyone ever tell you not to judge a book by the cover. I have full sleeve tattoos on both arms and a female. Does this mean I'm some crazed lunatic who is going to kill you or steal your money? Really, come on now. Watch what you say you never know who you could be offending. It's bizarre to me how people in the 21st century are still this ignorant. I have lived in the ghetto. I am from the ghetto born and raised in Philly. Orlando or any city for that matter does not come with a handbook. I moved here three years ago from Sarasota, FL (moved there from philly) thinking that it was going to be a lot like there...safe. Also, unlike you, I don't like to waste gas. I'm sorry but money is tight so driving around with my windows down is my propagative and actually a really smart thing to do. Especially for me, who is an Environmentalist. It was a fluke accident and could've happened anywhere but it didn't, it happened here. I am only here to share my story and opinions to others who are curious to know what it is like living here. The statistics are there. This is one of THE most dangerous places to live in the United States. Last edited by Keeper; 04-22-2008 at 09:16 PM.. Reason: Please no name calling |
