I've been pistol whipped, assaulted, beaten, robbed, and even murdered now three times already! I'm scared to walk out to my car in broad daylight for fear that I might get murdered again - OH, how I loath living in such fear day to day.

you need to be more careful,,,there are only so many times you can be murdered. I remember when that happened to me.

i can''t believe some like "mary lou , txlady" would put all that time and effort into creating all those Alias...I think some needs to stop BIATCHIN about stuff and get out there and do something about the Crime in her "area" which i thought was poinciana but then she said she lived in haines city, and then there was a post about how she liked Daven port.. and then she posts about how bad the crime is in orlando...so she spreads her self thin....

Personally she should stop lurking in these forums and posting obnoxious remarks to anyone with a solid reason why Florida doesn't stink.

And people that actually live in Orlando would know that with the exception of North OBT (which is supposed to be safe!, I disagree), these areas are not bad.
By saying the crime is not out of control, you are being just as biased as those that claim it's Detroit south. The fact is, Orlando is becoming very dangerous for ordinary people.

Just to give you an example - Austin, TX is 700k people in the actual city. Orlando is roughly 200k in the city. Austin had 20 murders in 2006. Orlando had 48. You do the math. For the size of the city, the crime IS completely getting out of control. And no matter how much you love Orlando it won't do it any favors by dusting facts under the rugs. I am ashamed of people who have lived there more than 10 years exclaim "ALL CITIES HAVE CRIME!!". Yes, they do, and Orlando has a lot more than most cities. Enough for the NYT to run a piece on how bad it is getting there.

While I loved Orlando and I truly do miss it, there's no way I would ever tell someone that Orlando is virtually as safe as any other city. It simply is not true.

Today is actually a very slow crime day in Orlando.

now this goes back to the problem areas. there are problem in orlando. I think everyone has acknowledged this. is the entire city of orlando one big bowl of crime? nope. count the crimes. they all occur in these bad areas,,,,,NOT all throughout the city and surrounding areas, etc. take out some of the well known problem areas and watch the crime stats fall.

This is why you have to go with the facts like I have shown that city-data proves the crime index is about a thousand! Even if there are "safe" areas in Orlando, this wont keep the criminals out and what if you go shopping or gasp to a bank? You could be in the middle of a robbery! Wanna go out at night to the movies? You may get mugged!

Some of you are going to defend Orlando. If you are going to do so, please at least dont forget to show all those links of crime happening so you dont mislead people! I think if everyone knew about the serious crime nature of Orlando and wasnt in denial, thousands would be leaving Orlando. I think house prices are about 3 times too high in Orlando given the crime, propery values should be much lower!

And you feel safe in your gated community when theres bad areas all around you? Youll have to go out to work or shopping and "stuff" can happen. Its much better to live in a city with NO bad areas in the first place!

Um, Eola Heights is not a bad area at all. Metrowest is refered to as a very nice area. Which I think is total BS because one drive through it, you will know.

What about the robery in Casselberry the other night at ihop? What about the guy driving down by Leu Gardens last Summer and shot in the head? What about the kid in Kissimmee who used his horn to alert the people in front of him that the light changed and he was hunted down and shot with a shotgun? I-drive is a bad area? That's news to me since the city spends millions promoting tourist to stay there! What about the people shout outside the Ale House at Disney the other night? That a bad area too?
What about last weekend in Oviedo where the couple went to a gun show, was followed home and brutally robbed in their own drive way, in BROAD daylight?

The good areas are getting just as much crime as the bad areas and that's my point.
Again you just cannot bury your head or this will completely destroy the city you love.

I honestly believe that Orlando is a beautiful, wonderful town (I did move because I got sick of it all though) and I hate to see it turn into what it's turning into. Housing costs are causing a CLEARLY divided Orlando.

I do want to say also that I've learned a lot of lessons after moving away from Orlando. I hope people moving there read this.

I too had thought traffic was a nightmare and that people were horribly rude.
While true, it's the same everywhere. I used to drive from St. Cloud to Altamonte Springs during rush hour. (turnpike to I-4). It's 37 miles. And most of the time it took an hour each way. There were days it took 2 hours. But now I live in Nashville and I drive 45 - 60 minutes for 11 miles. If it rains? You're out of luck.

Housing is horrible there as I have previously stated. I know people don't want to listen to that either, but it is. When I was looking to move I checked out houses to see what else I could get closer to downtown. I saw they are now calling the Paramore area "south college park". To someone on the outside they wouldnt know better. But 300k for a 3/2 in that area is criminal. It's a horrible area.

Honestly, if you love theme parks and the beach and sunshine, Orlando cannot be beat. I am going crazy because I miss so much about the town. But there are truly some bad things happening that need to be addressed so that Orlando doesnt REALLY become a terrible place to live.
