Wanna go out at night to the movies? You may get mugged!

Some of you are going to defend Orlando. If you are going to do so, please at least dont forget to show all those links of crime happening so you dont mislead people! I think if everyone knew about the serious crime nature of Orlando and wasnt in denial, thousands would be leaving Orlando. I think house prices are about 3 times too high in Orlando given the crime, propery values should be much lower!

And you feel safe in your gated community when theres bad areas all around you? Youll have to go out to work or shopping and "stuff" can happen. Its much better to live in a city with NO bad areas in the first place!
What do you mean, links of crime happening?

(Most) people are not stupid. They know crime happens. They also know Crime 101: IT'S NOT IN EVERY PART OF THE CITY!

Weren't you justifying the house you almost bid on, saying "it's in a gated community"? Now you say gated communities are bad? Interesting change of tone.

Not sure where you get the property values stuff.

Home prices are ridiculous and traffic is horrible! = 100% true.
There are no "safe" neighborhoods in Orlando anymore!!! = 100% true.
Sad to hear. Too bad some people will deny this. I am gonna assume they just dont care about crime or personal safety or like Orlando soooooo much that even the crime isnt enough to deter them. I wish them luck and hope they have good self defense and survival skills in a dangerous, crime infested city.

By the way, where have you been? Didnt see your posts for a while.

Nobody thinks Florida is paradise. There are seedy areas everywhere. I don't get the point of this thread, now that I think about it.

The paranoid people are on one side trying to convince the more reasonable about this. Nobody is budging. Perhaps we should just drop it and keep our own opinions.

You are right. I will choose what I want and let others choose what they want. If they dont care about the crime index or safety, its their life. High crime cities are not for me, I dont care if there is a "safe" area, I do not even want to be near the crime. Id say 30+ miles away from the crime is safe for me. If theres a nice safe city near a crime city, I am not interested.

The sad reality is crime is rising everywhere. Yes, Orlando crime is rising faster than most areas, but so is the population. It's all relative. The fact is our society today is breeding new crime, no matter where you call home. I can't believe how some of the crimes I see on tv now are considered "average" when 20 years ago it would have been shocking to say the least. Growing up I lived all over the place, so I got a chance to see how things were in a lot of different states and I can honestly say that crime has increased tremendously, not necessarily in quantity but the violent and/or sinister nature of some of the average crimes out there today are sickening.

My point is all you Orlando haters can point at Orlando and say it's a terrible area and to move to a safer, cleaner area. Go ahead. But don't turn a blind eye to the fact that it's happening all over our country. It is a national issue and not a city issue. You can run but you can't hide.

Well, I am not Marylou or whoever you are talking about. I worked for the State Attorneys office in Orange County for many years and saw the police reports as they came in. There is just so much you don't see on the news. The crime is coming into the "good areas" because the criminals from the "bad areas" are spilling into these areas and victimizing people that have more money.
The bottom line is, many people (that don't live there) have the perception that it is a paradise, etc. but in reality it is becoming one big slum with a few good neighborhoods thrown in the middle of it. Inner city filfth is spread throughout the area.
Many, many law-abiding, good family people are getting out and moving out of state.

This is what ive been saying but people choose not to listen to what they dont want to hear. I live in West Palm Beach in a gated area thats supposed to be safe and yet there have been burglaries and auto thefts! Ive seen the gate broken into many times. My parents are in denial. If I had the money, I would love to buy them a house in a safe location somewhere in Ohio, West Virginia or Pennsylvania.

Talking Right there with you

Yes Orlando is terrible. I lived there for 18 years and when I got out of there I couldnt have been happier . I live in Tampa now and there is a big diffrence in the way people live and act. I made a promise to myself to never go back there unless its just to visit my family.

You make it sound like Orlando is the whole state?

im moving to orlando from deltona. its about a 20min drive for me so orlando isnt that far and ive been here for 21years. yea a lot has changed especially with crimes but what the hell.. of course most normal people value their life and ones they love but to move from orlando cause you fear for your life is a pretty dumb excuse. its pretty hard to move away from crime anywhere. my dads owned a business in seminole county for almost 30years and this place is supposed to be the 'worst' place in sanford.. no ones followed him home, or even tried to put his life in danger. my uncle also owns a business down in Parramore and other places in orlando. yea he has money but has he been robbed? pistol whipped? beaten?.. sure those are bad neighborhoods but its all mainly drug related. any crime that happens outside of these areas dont happen because they so happen to be in orlando.. they happen because they just happen just like it could anywhere else. maybe i feel this way cause ive lived here all my life i dont know but i definetly dont feel like my life in in danger.. people are people and no one is higher than God so i really have nothing to fear no matter where i live. i know i kind of took this a little out there but thats just how i feel and im not really bashing on anyone, its all opinion based whether you have 50links to various news sites or not. thats all
