Nope, a suburb by definition is NOT part of a city. Smaller parts of cities are called neighborhoods, districts, sections, etc., but never suburb.

For example, West Miami, South Miami and Coral Gables are suburbs of Miami. Overtown, Coconut Grove and Shenandoah are neigborhoods in Miami.

I don't think this is as unusual as whoever wrote this Wikipedia entry thinks it is. Some other examples are Pittsburgh, about 350k in the city, over 2 million in the metro; Atlanta, less than 400k city, over 4 million metro; St. Louis, about 325k in the city, over 2.5k metro, Miami, less than 400k city, over 2 million metro; Minneapolis St Paul, less than 800k in both cities, about 3.4 million metro.

And now we have MarkyMark1....seems he arrived overnight! The alliteration (using the word lightly - as in repetition of phrases/statements in every thread in lieu of repetition of consonant sounds) is certainly the same.

Default now i'm puzzled

Wow after reading all the post about the orlando area i'm not so sure i want to plan my golfing trip there any more. Since they'res alot of floridians here i will post what i want and you tell me what city i should be heading. Close to golf courses. Close to a dog track (like in orlando i had the sanford-orlando kennel club ) the main reason is that one of my friends never saw live kennels races. Good choice of hotels i dont want to have to pay 300 $ a night. Safe place i usualy dont go out at night since me and my friends dont drink so we are'nt looking for bars and nightclubs. So with all that i hope someone could help me out. My friend wanted to go to myrtle beach SC but in november you can get some cool weather what you generaly dont get in florida.

No matter where you go there is going to be crime. But, as of late it has been kind of scary. That's one reason why I don't miss it. I do think it is insane, the number of murders, and such. But, if you stay away from areas like Pine Hills, and such you should be okay. If ever you decide to move to a big city, check out the little areas on the outskirts.

Do your homework, don't just move because it's got your ideal playground a few miles away. Also, the wiser person shells out money for faster travel then I-4 which will never be untouched. Always construction, always blockage. Always bad accidents... *shudder*

Urban sprawl is making Orlando a city with GROWING PAINS. The suburbs are jammed with people. So much building and tearing down forests, trees, etc that the sprawling is out of control. So with soooo many people moving here the crime is out of control to some extent. Also dont forget, tourists cause some of the crime here too. It will get under control after a while. Just stay away from the bad areas. Every city has good and bad areas. Best thing to do for a prospective family looking to move here is look around before you make a decision to move. We have so much to offer down here, but you have to look at what you want first and what area will suit you and your families needs. Do the homework and dont just come down to Orlando on a whim.

However Orlando isnt as bad as Miami. Been to Miami and it is ten times worse as Orlando.

I think Buddy Dyer must be defending his little city here. Orlando sux.
Folks, all crime is not reported. The statistics for "Orlando" are separated for the statistics for "Orange County". If you live in Orlando, you live basically in Orange County. Add the number of murders together and you'll get a better picture of what "Orlando" is like. Orlando is Orange County. You cannot separate the two, but they do when it comes to statistics of crime.

Now, let me also say that the Puerto Ricans have come in and taken over many of the areas and it's like Puerto Rico has cloned itself. The language, the culture, the hoochie-mamas, the bling-bling, the loud hispanic music, the gangs, the low-riders with their loud mufflers, the arrogant attitudes, the rude vulgar talk, the unfriendliness, the trashiness, the lower property values, the poor work ethic and the CRIME....oh do I sound prejudice? Facts are facts. My area is getting more and more run down every day. The apartments are filled with parking lots of shopping carts because they don't care. The fields are laden with them too along with their unwanted trash like a tvs and a sofas, last month's garbage, etc. The billboards are written in spanish, the clerks are all speaking spanish to one another and most of the people in the store are hispanic too. They wreck the retail shelves, leave clothes in the dressing rooms, steal and break things. Yes, I worked retail.

Pardon me, but I have had my belly full of Orlando. Mr. Dyer, keep that money going to your precious arena and arts. Who cares about the crime?
You don't! And who cares about property values? You don't!

Let's keep the wood and the tape on the windows from the hurricanes all year long. Maybe it will help deter the crime.

On a positive note... OPD is finally getting off their cute buttocks and going to downtown Orlando and start busting up drug dealers and people with stolen guns. FINALLY!! Metro West is hiring off duty cops to patrol the streets of MW and try to curb the unbearable crime problem that is slamming MW.

But overall, Dyer is a disgrace to the city of Orlando, so is McCoy, whose only idea to curb crime is to go to the ghettos and ask law-abiding poor people to turn in their legally purchased firearms for basketball tickets while all the crack dealers, rapists, bank robbers, etc KEEP their stolen/illegal guns. Great going, dumbo!!

Orlando is getting pretty run down in some areas, I'd have to agree. As a city, Orlando is not too bad, but some of people people moving down here are really begining to make this place suck! And I am not happy about!!

But really, crime in Orlando has gone way up. Too far up, too fast. Thanks to Hurricane Katrina for beinging a ton of criminals here too. It was not like we didn't have plenty already!!

Oh and another thing... if Orlando keeps growing with no infra-structure like Miami has for many years, Orlando will become Miami and will suck just as much as Miami. I think people need to pressure local lawmakers to hold builders responsible for paying for some of the growth they cause due to overbuilding of houses, apts, and condos.

Otherwise, the demise that has encompassed Miami will also hit Orlando. People need to wake up and demand they get tough on crime and build roads and schools to accomodate the throngs of people who move down here or Orlando will become Miami... maybe even worse! And then it will be too late!
