Insurance and meldew
Hi Everyone,
This last summer we left our new house in Winter Haven Florida in March and set the Air-Con to 75%, a few weeks ago we had a phone call from a friend who looks in on the house now and then to say we had Mold every
where in the house.
We have arranged for a Mold expert to clean the house from top to bottom. and all the clothes/
My question is:
Can we claim on our house insurance for this expensive job.

Yes, probably. Most policies included mold removal. Call your insurance company ASAP. Good luck!

I would suspect this is the end result of all the heavy rains, hurricanes and tropical storms we just went through. I found this online:
4. Keep up your home maintenance-especially plumbing. Mold and mildew damage are now excluded from coverage in many insurance policies. If you have had an undetected leak that has caused damage, mold, and/or mildew it could end up costing you dearly in out of pocket costs.
Allstate Reconstruction - insurance restoration, columbus, ohio, construction compnay
Your insurance agent will be the only one who can go over your policy with you to see if you are indeed covered. It may depend on what they determine the 'reason' for the damage.
Good luck to you!

After the hurricanes many insurance companies removed a great deal of items covered, pool enclosures, fences, and even mold in some cases. It was really all about them and a way for them to skirt around claims. they want to take everyones money but they hate to pay out when needed. .... Nationalization anyone?

It depends on your insurance. Mine covers, but only up to $10K. that's a drop in teh bucket for a major mold remediation. before you start cleanup you have to figure out why you've got mold. Leaving the A/C set at 75 degrees wouldn't have caused it, I seldom turn mine below 78.
My guess is that you've got a major water leak someplaceeither a broken pipe or water coming in under the eaves or through the block, and until you fix that there's no sense cleaning up, because it's just going to come back.
