Oviedo or Winter Park ?????
My family and I will be relocating to the Orlando area in the spring and are trying to figure out where would we fit in best. We are looking at Oviedo and Winter Park. I was told that they were both good areas but which has the best schools ( we have a 14 year old ). We don't want to be to far from city life but we don't want to be right in the middle of it either. My Husbands company will be relocating there and it will be downtown orlando. Anyone who responds i just want to say Thanks in advance. O'h one more thing we NEED an area where the crime is very little.

Many parts of Oviedo you will feel pretty rural, while other parts just feel like nice suburbs that may fit you perfectly.
Both area's have great schools, but the edge may go to Oviedo. Check out school reviews at greatschools.net, and state ratings here School Accountability Report .
Winter Park is older with a different charm than Oviedo, and much closer to downtown Orlando for your husbands company. Winter Park does have more area's surrounding it that are not the best with crime, while oviedo seems relatively lower on crime, but confirm crime statistics with the local sheriff's offices.
Winter Park also tends to have more expensive housing, so you price range will have alot to do with which would be better or not. Your best bet is to take a tour of the area's with someone knowledgeable (like your friendly neighborhood Realtor) to show you what each has to offer and a few of the neighborhoods you may like.
Are you guys going to be assisted by a relocation company for your move?

I chose Oviedo
We also liked both areas but ended up in Oviedo just because it was quieter. We still went to Winter Park often to dine, walk around, etc.

Oviedo I believe is the best choice if you have children, the schools in Seminole County are some of the best in Central Florida. Your husband would also have easy access to Downtown Orlando via the Greenway 417.

I think Winter Park would better suit your family. Both places have very good schools, Oviedo and Winter Park are both very reputable schools. I say Winter Park simply because the commute for your husband would be significantly shorter. It's hard to enjoy all the great opportunities of your community if you're spending so much time getting back home from work. The congestion isn't as bad going to Oviedo because the 417 is a toll road but the distance alone is a good 25+ miles from Oviedo to downtown. Winter Park is also more centrally located to the rest of the area and easier to get your bearings. Either way I don't think you will be dissapointed with whatever decision you make between these two communities. Best of Luck.

We moved to Winter Park last spring. I did a good amount of research on all areas in Seminole County since we have two young children. We settled on Tuskawilla and could not be happier.

We love Winter Park - we lived in Ocoee (love Ocoee too LOL). I'd move to Winter Park in a heartbeat. I have 4 children ages 5 and younger.

Winter Park is a real town, with a downtown area. It is a college town. Oveido is just one more cookie cutter suburb with no downtown. Winter Park in a minute.

20 years ago Oviedo was a blinking light cross roads. Everything there is relatively new. Winter Park has quite a history. Older and newer sections. Winter Park High is surrounded by quiet upper middle class neighborhood. Both areas have decent reputations for public schools and private. My opinion of oviedo is that there are just a few highway arteries to it. Both areas have good qualities. Oviedo will probably have better Bargains in housing. Oviedo is close UCF/ Rollins for Winter Park. Community colleges- Valencia several campuses around town Seminole closer to Oviedo. Central Florida is Huge A visit is advised.
