Robbery with physical force, but no gun. It's popular in suburban parking lots. Not to be confused with armed robbery, which uses a gun, or burglary, which is a totally different crime that involves breaking and entering...

Thx Compelled. I have seen the term quite a few times and I have looked it up, but could really never get an accurate description of what the term actually means.

I wonder what they are using as "physical force?"

Due to break-ins going on in OUR very neighborhood (it was on the news here locally a few days ago), I almost answered my door the other day with a handgun by my side, no kidding. It was a younger guy trying to sell me magazine descriptions. I wouldnt trust someone like that if I werent home and it was just my wife and daughter at home. I would tell her to ignore it. You just dont know anymore, especially in Orlando.

Almost always with the hand, but can be with any part of the body, or just through intimidation.

Armed robbery also covers knives and other weapons as well as guns, so that means that "physical force or imtimidation" is assisted by the weapon...

As far as the newspaper guy, probably a professional burglar who is casing. That being said, I wouldn't move to Orlando, Miami or Jacksonville because a lot of neighborhoods have that kind of paranoia...as far as the cities, Tampa Bay and even the rest of South Florida seem to still have proportionally a lot of "neighborly" spots where you don't have to be scared if someone knocks on your door...

I have seen you bring up Jacksonville and Charlotte in your relocation plans, and if you are looking to get away from that feel in your neighborhood, I do not recommend those two areas at all (they are both just as bad or worse), but of course there are always exceptions (usually older or established neighborhoods). I wouldn't trust a newer area unless it's FAR from the city.

^^^ I think newer areas seem to be more of a problem. If you compare places like Winter Park or Thorton Park to Avalon or Waterford, it seems like there's a big difference.

And yes, Charlotte is off my radar. Sounds to much like Orlando now, minus the espanol. But the crime and gangs sound to much like Orlando to me.

Even Dr. Phillips to Avalon/Waterford. Dr. Phillips also has a scary resemblance to Boca Raton and Coral Springs...

Well, tell me all how accurate these figures seem to you all, we subscribed to NeighborhoodScout for all this statistical data in one place so we can asses each area we are considering. It does not jive with what some of you good folks are telling me tho...so here goes

Violent crime

National Median 5
Florida AVG 7.08
Sanford 7.7
Orlando 19.33
Eastwood .15
Longwood 7.07
Wekiva Springs/Sabal area of Longwood .49
Lake Mary 1.95
Lake Mary city center .39

Property Crimes

National Median 35
Florida AVG 40.08
Sanford 80.43
Orlando 93.63
Eastwood 1.43
Longwood 7.07
Wekiva Springs/Sabal .49
Lake Mary 20.99
Lake Mary city center 5.85

Crimes per square mile

National Median 49.6
Florida AVG 91
Sanford 6509
Orlando 203
Eastwood 4
Longwood 43.98
Wekiva Springs/Sabal 11.54
Lake Mary 26
Lake Mary city center 40

Giving crime rating indeces of 1-100 (1 being lowest 100 being highest)

Sanford 13
Eastwood 96
Longwood 70
Orlando (city center) 2
Lake Mary city center 83
Even the Heathrow area of Lake Mary gets an 83 rating.

This data indicates that Eastwood is one of the safer areas....?? Do you all see why I am so confused???

Floridamoves dot com also gives disparate information...some is corroborative and some is contrary. I guess I give up trying to sort it all out!!!! AGH!!! lol This is all very confusing to me. I appreciate all the input...my brain is no longer outputting...lol!

Sanford, is not an option, as far as the recommendations list is going., neither is Orlando city proper....that much I have figured out. So far...the schools are keeping Seminole county a little ahead in the running...Orange county schools are more difficult to figure out...almost as difficult as these crime stats!!!

Keep it coming all y'ous guys who live and work there!!!

Eastwood is perfectly safe. I lived there for many years along with waterford lakes. My mother still lives in the area in Avalon. It is as safe a neighborhood as you can find in the Orlando area. Lots of children play outside in the area and they are perfectly OK. I wouldnt worry at all if my pregnant wife walked down the street in eastwood at night. Thats saying a lot. As long as you stay in the neighborhhods of wateford lakes, eastwood, avalon, and stoneybrooke, you'll be perfectly fine. And the schools there are great too. There is crime everywhere but the 32828 zip code is one of the safest in Orlando. Seriously you are wasting your time worrying abotu crime in that area. Its almost non existent. PM me if you want specific information about the area. I lived there for 14 years and went to highschool there as well as college. My sister and mother still live in the 32828 area also.

"There is crime everywhere but the 32828 zip code is one of the safest in Orlando."

Overall, it's safe here in the 32828 zipcode, but it has its issues too. One of the safest zipcodes? Maybe. But on the other hand, cars getting stolen, houses getting broken into (it seems like it is daily), running red lights over and over again, and me personally feeling like a minority isnt exactly stuff that people in Raleigh NC or a place like that have to worry about when spending $250k and up for a house.

BTW, there have been a couple ppl shot in the 32828 zipcode. I can think of two in the past yr or so.
