Exclamation Taxi Driving in florida

My family and I are doing the count down on our big move to Orlando from New York. My husband has said he would possibly like to drive taxi's ( on the side from his regular job ) In hopes of starting his own car service. Is there a special permit needed to drive taxi's in fl ? Does he need a sponsor ? In NY you need a Hack license first and then you have to take the taxi test. I know that every state is different. How is the taxi drivers pay ? ETC. Any additional info on this will be so greatly appreciated.

He'd need a hack license and a permit for the area he was picking up fares in. In Orange County, Mears Transportation owns the three largest cab services. You might want to check with them for employment. It's going to be very, very tough going as an independent--if you can get a permit on your own. The drivers have protested city hall a few times and are constantly complaining that they can't make a living with the current fare structure and rules.

Because Disney now offers the Magical Express, a huge amount of the car service work that was once available has gone away, and many car services have folded.

I'm not sure I'd be looking at that as a source of income or for long-term job potential. He'd probably make a lot more money delivering pizza's.

One thing to also watch out for is that it is dangerous being a taxi-driver in orlando.
