Opinions on Osprey Lakes...
As I digest all this info...I have come across a little development in Chuluota called Osprey Lakes. It seems to have everything I am looking for. Large homes, land, pool, right price range for my budget...AND its water front...wow! Seminole county schools...and all!
It would be just under a half hour drive from the hubby's job-as mapquest describes it. We can deal with that.
So, what is the opinion here of that town? It is an up and coming area out there? Is it decent? Is it Whoo-ha-ville? Osprey Lakes is a gated community. What can you kind folk tell me about it?
Thanks!

Inside the community is gorgeous. I have friends and past clients that live in there and love it.
They used to have a water problem as they are serviced by a smaller private water company. when they were first built years ago people would occasionally get $500+ water bills for no reason, and the water quality tests didn't come back so great. However these problems seem to have gone away over the past few years as residents wouldn't have it and lots of $$$ was invested in upgrading the water treatment facility. Those I know in the community have no problems now, even with a pool and no well for irrigation.
Other than that, you do feel like your "out there" getting to and from the neighborhood, but it does give you the feeling of privacy, Not many people would even notice the entryway to the huge community, much less even know about it! I wouldn't describe it as up and coming, just a sleepy area, there has been lots of residential construction around there over the past few years, but nothing crazy.
Check out the area yourself of course, if you need getting through the gate, I'd be happy to help.

About the water...
Saw this post about my neighborhood and thought I'd reply - hope it's not too late to be helpful. I thought you should know that the water issue is NOT resolved here and we receive letters from Aqua Utilities stating that the levels of trihalomethane are above the MCL (acceptable limit). The residents must filter their water before drinking or purchase bottled water. Other than high rates for poor quality water, the Osprey Lakes community is a wonderful neighborhood just far enough from the city life to relax a bit.

Thanks Harry! No you are not too late!!! AND your 'hood is still in the running...lol!
I was aware of the water issues...there is a fella that lives there who has a blog or something on line and I had dropped him an email. I appreciate your update as well. You all have been fighting quite the battle there with the water. Which stinks. You are paying quite the high water bills as well! the Lake looks just absolutely beautiful in the photos tho! That is my pre req...if we decided to move there..I think I would want to be on the lake...in spite of the 9 foot gator a couple years ago...lol!
Would you mind if I PM you some questions? I won't be too pesky, I promise..lol!!

OH, and I see your link was removed due to you not having enough posts yet, but I have enough posts and I feel that link is important to have here in this thread. So I hope its OK I am going to put it back in for you Harry, because I feel that if people are looking into purchasing a home, its important to know if the water quality is potable or not!
Chuluota Water - FLOW (Friends of Locally Owned Water)
I hope you guys get a good resolution to the issue because I am certain it is having a negative impact on your home values currently. I know it is certainly giving me great pause on considering purchasing a home in that development. We have not made a decision yet, but this is most certainly a factor.

LOL...the hubby took the drive while working this week and it was a twenty minute drive from his job, so not too bad really. We had always discussed moving to a more rural area here in PA because we dislike all the traffic and things that go along with being so close to a big city, so it is a consideration for us. It's all what you like I guess
So long as there are kids there for my daughter to play with, our hobbies consist of photography, (lake with bird conservation area..what a great subject matter), and we all , the child included, enjoy shooting sports and the Chuluota sportsman's club is right there...so, those things are quite convenient...
But I do understand how it would be considered far away from things for some folks...thanks for the heads up on that!
