I also believe that when all these people who are saying they are moving actually DO MOVE, things will improve. I am hoping for a massive exodus from Orlando but not so sure the people who say they are moving really will.

That said, anyone that pays attention to their surroundings (have you been to a mall lately when little miss/.mr. rich shopper opens the hatch to their SUV, goes to open the front door to throw in their purse and then wonder why they were robbed or targeted?), doesn't go looking for sex or drugs at 3am on the wrong side of town, locks their doors and uses common sense - those people will most likely NEVER experience crime in Orlando.

AS Jonotastic said, it seems people are stuck in the past when Orlando was the size of nothing. It was a unique (although boring) place back then but ultimately things do change. The good always comes with the bad. I know I am beating a dead horse but out of those 123 murders, how many were innocent, trouble free people?
Should we bring up how many innocent people were murdered by drunk drivers? Where's the outrage in that?

You see, it's not so easy to simply say, "Well, as long as they blow themselves away, it's no problem for me;" their lifestyle is a cancer in our community that ultimately destroys it.
Unfortunately, domestic crime is not confined to certain areas or certain "types" of people. Sometimes the wealthy are just a little more secretive about it, but domestic crimes occur across all economic spectrums. So you are probably already sharing lifestyles with associates who are abusive to their spouses or children. You children probably go to school with children who are abused, regardless of how high end the school. No matter where you live. And this has been going on for ALWAYS!!! My grandmother is nearly 100 years old. Lived most of her life in a small town in Wisconsin. Yet I remember her relaying stories of wife abusers, child abuse dating back to the 30's and 40's and 50's. The terrible Christmas killings in California, the killer was employed in Aerospace industry. Probably very well paid. Probably lived in good neighborhood. The shooter in Texas, was a Morman Police Officer in Utah. Unfortunately, there will also be people like this, and unfortunately, they have more access to deadly force that involves others now. But don't be so sure, that you are not living next door to an abuser, no matter where you live. Be it Orlando, or small town America somewhere.

I really don't understand all the hostilities toward Orlando....It's a nice little place....I don't regret for a nano-second my decision to move here. Beautiful weather year round, access to some wonderful beaches....The only problem I have or had is I moved away from my family...That ended last year when they started migrating here...The pro's definitely outweigh the con's...Their are A LOT of places across the country that can't touch Orlando, Fla.

I think your post, like a lot of others who support Orlando can differ on your job situation, your neighborhood, your connection to the community, you not being victimized by crime, etc. There are very nice areas in Central Florida and other worse off areas, and everything in between. Someone who lives in a nice area like Heathrow and another nice area like Winter Park even could have an entirely different outlook and lifestyle, so how much more when you can only afford a 200k house and you are unsure of the area. Without advice, like this forum someone could end up in an area that is not that nice or has other issues. Also, some perfectly nice areas in town border some worse areas so there can be overlap of crime/drug activity in these instances too. Some examples are Union Park being close to Cypress Springs/Waterford, College Park being close to Pine Hills/Lockhart, Conway/Belle Isle being close to Azalea Park/Goldenrod, Metrowest being close to Parramore/Lake Mann area, South Chase and Hunters Creek being somewhat close to Sky Lake and Kissimmee, Park Ave Winter Park being close to Lee Road Winter Park or parts of Casselberry. Casselberry and Altamonte are good examples of towns that have nice and not nice areas. I got a little carried away, but you get the idea. There are also parts of town that are a little more sheltered like Oviedo/Winter Springs, Lake Nona, and Dr Philips/Windermere.

So you're telling me because some "little miss rich shopper", as you so eloquently put it, happens to be distracted by her cranky kids wanting a bottle and therefore isn't totally aware of her surroundings deserves to get mugged or even killed?!? OK. And I hate when people make such general statements..people who don't go looking for sex or drugs will likely NEVER experience crime. So my father, a 6'2" 230lb guy, pumping gas at a gas station in Conway, deserved to get mugged, pistole-whipped, & dropped off at a motel by some crackhead?! I think not.

When a crime of some sort happens to you or to a loved one of yours, we'll see if it's just something we all need to adapt to. Just face it, Orlando's crime is really bad..and it's getting worse. Yes, other bigger cities have much more crime, but that's why I don't live there. I like my smaller city with suppose to be less crime. The amount of crime to the population just doesn't add up.

CRIME IS CRIME!

I think Orlando crime is a little bit high, because Orlando isnt that big. If you were to compare it to other cities of it's size, I think Orlando will have a higher crime rate per capita. Also, back in the day, Orlando didnt experience much crime, so now it hit us like a ton of bricks!

You can also factor in the fact that there are tons of tourists and they are in most cases easy targets.

The folks who move out of Orlando will not be the ones who will be taking the problems with them. The problems are going to stay, and other problems will be moving in. Good luck.

I agree, a lot of the folks moving to different parts of the southeast are mostly the folks that you want staying in FL. And when many of the good folks leave, they are being replaced by folks that are, at times, not the people you wanna see doing the replacing.
