Out of O-Town
Amen! My wife has been offered a terrific job opportunity in Dallas. Fortunately, our children are grown and we're free to finally flee Orlando. As you say, it was a nice place some years ago; however, low wages, horrific traffic, and ever-increasing violent crime have turned Orlando into a good place to be from.

"Those of us who think Orlando is a great place will not miss you."
Orlando was a nice place. I dont think it can correct itself. The types of ppl moving in will continue to move here, period. The good people (many of them natives of the state or lived here for a long time) that made Orlando a nice place to live back in the day fled, and arent gonna come back, more than likely. I am a native, and I complain, b/c I know what Orlando (and almost all of FL) used to be like, and I hate that it has changed so drastically. I miss my Old FL.

Can't you see the entire world has changed as well? Nothing stays the same and THAT's what keep people from growing as well.....because they long for the past. I know Orlando from 1989 forward and I miss the old Orlando too, but that's no reason to make the current Orlando sound so bad. Sorry but I don't buy that Celebration is so bad. In fact I googled robbery/Celebration/Fl/Jewelry and found one robbery this year and the suspect was caught......but it wasnt at a jewelry store. This again is just another in a long line of people on this board making Orlando out to be something it's not. Not to be rude, but people who pay millions of dollars for a home and tens of thousands in property tax would NOT stand for a robbery three times in the middle of the day. Give me a break.
"Date: April 15, 2008
On April 15 at approximately 12:22 a.m., Osceola County Sheriff's deputies responded to Longview Avenue in Celebration in reference to a strong armed robbery. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victim who indicated she pulled into the parking lot and exited her vehicle. As she walked towards the building, an unknown black male approached her and asked her, "You seen Joe?" The suspect began hitting her in the face and took her personal items before leaving the area in a tan or champagne colored Chevrolet Suburban. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5'10", medium build wearing a black t-shirt and dark capri style pants."
From: Central Florida Crimeline
I live in the supposedly horrific downtown area and even down here we dont have Publix and Jewelry stores getting robbed. People make their own realities sometimes I think and the more you make it a bad place to live in your head the worse it seems out in the real world.
I too wish the people from the North who hate it here would leave so Orlando could possibly become even better.

I actually like the changes that have been occuring in Orlando. Whole Foods has been moving in, more outlet malls, more shopping centers, more restaurants, more hookah bars, more developments etc. It's called progression. About crime...I'd feel much safer in Florida than most other states. The laws are very strict when it comes to robbery especially armed robbery...what is that law 10-20-life or something. Plus, you can easily purchase a weapon to defend yourself in case someone breaks into your house without fearing you will be charged with murder.

I would keep your guard up. You feel safer in Orlando eventhough the violent crime rate is increasing at an exponential rate? Please, tell us which cities/states you lived in that you felt less safe.

I've lived in:
Anchorage, Alaska
Wasilla, Alaska
Seattle, Washington
San Francisco, California
Daytona Beach, Florida
Orlando, Florida
Boca Raton, Florida
Gold Coast, QLD - Australia
I'd have to say Orlando is one of the safest cities (feeling wise) I've lived in.

I am a resident of Saint Cloud: scary to hear that you got shot at by the Ice skating rink!! But unfortuneately, not surprising. Over the past few years this area has gone waaaaay downhill; lots of thug-like activity, spillover from Kissimmee, I believe.
Also it would be nice if even one other family on my block spoke English. It's like we live in a foreign country.

amen to that. the language barriers, the crime, the rudeness, etc... there are so many better places to live than orlando. even in the southeast alone, you got places like asheville nc, raleigh nc, cary nc, greenville sc, alpharetta ga that are so much better. besides the beach, name one reason orlando is better than those cities mentioned above.
