Davenport has lots of shopping nearby, you don't have to go out of town. Check out the the new Posner Park shopping area. I don't have a link, but if you google it you should find some info.

She says there's no feeling of 'belonging' because people are coming and going all the time, and you never know who your next week's neighbors will be.

But, in my opinion, it's one of the nicer short-term rental communities.

Thanks so much for the info ~ it's great to hear! I looked it up and read reviews and it looks like a nice place. I don't mind living amongst vacationers, I quite like that idea actually

For some people, but everyone is different. I know my family will enjoy "living on vacation" for a year, since that's what we're moving to Fl. to do anyway...we are both at home fulltime, homeschooling and to have a resort community will be fun with all the pools and amenities and hopefully we will meet lots of different families from all over and that will be a great learning experience for them.

I couldn't agree more with that. I don't at all mind living among lots of "transients" either, and given the explanations from the folks who don't care for it, I can't say that I have very similar beliefs or dispositions, but I can certainly understand how avoiding "transients" would be right for some people.

Exactly. For me it won't be a problem. I am different in that I don't need the sense of community or close neighbors. We like to just keep to ourselves and will enjoy being around happy vacationing families

Well, and for me, I enjoy interacting with different people regularly.

Although I lived in what was then a small town when I was very young, since I was a teen, at least, I've never lived somewhere that I knew all my neighbors, the neighbors (or me) didn't move frequently, and I wasn't regularly encountering and interacting with people I wasn't previously familiar with. I suspect that I might not like that kind of "community" very much--where everyone knows everyone else and pays attention to their business so that they'd know if someone unusual is in the neighborhood, etc.

I know my neighbors but we aren't in each others business. It's nice to know that my neighbors keep an eye on our community. I got a call one day from a neighbor asking if I was home (she had called my cell number) because she saw a strange van in my driveway and wanted to make sure we weren't being "cleaned out." That's the type of taking care of each other and being a good neighbor that you can't have in a transient neighborhood.

This is so funny ~ you sound just like us I don't want to be in a "community" where everyone knows us and pays attention to everyone who comes and goes. I love the idea of meeting new people from all over the world. We homeschool and I work from home so I think it will be a great experience for them meeting new people from different places. It's good to hear from others who are like minded and don't feel the "need" for that tight knit community, cause it's just not us!!!

That's nice, and neighbors and neighborhoods like that are nice. It just proves what I said earlier ~ everyone is different and likes different things and feels comfortable in different situations. I personally don't have a desire to live in a place like that, there is nothing wrong with that either ~ it's just my preference
