That's the type of taking care of each other and being a good neighbor that you can't have in a transient neighborhood.
Right . . . whereas I would probably think, "Holy cow Mabel is nosy!"

It would make me feel that I couldn't have people stop by the house while the neighbors mind their own business.

I agree that that's great for you if it's the kind of thing you like, though.

I didn't think she was nosey, just helping to keep our neighborhood secure. I'd rather get a phone call like that over having someone break into my house.

Right. Which emphasizes that we're not all the same.

If you really don't want neighbors, then why live in a gated community? You could rent a home in unincorporated Polk or Lake County for less money and have a lot more privacy.

Another thing I wouldn't like about a vacation community is that when on vacation, people tend to keep different schedules. I wouldn't want to deal with the people next door coming back from Mickey World at 1:00 am and deciding it was a great time to go for a swim and whoop it up.

earthfaries might not mind neighbors (I don't), but just wouldn't want nosy ones.

But yeah, for me, I'd rather avoid HOAs/gated communities for a variety of reasons.

I wonder if earthfaries necessarily meant that by "resort style community".

All of the "Resort Style Communities" around here are gated and generally speaking, the homes are on top of each other. Some are close enough that you could pass a cup of sugar out your window to your neighbor leaning out hers. I've always been surprised that the fire marshall would allow houses to be built that closely to each other.

"Resort Style Community" means that there is a pool, tennis/basketball courts, clubhouse that may or may not offer activities, and usually a small excercise room and children's playground/play area.

The idea is that someone could be referring to something different than someone else would refer to with that term.

I realize that. Like I said, "around here" that's how they are described. When in Rome, you know?

No, making sure that the poster was clear in what type of living situation she was moving into in order to avoid disappointment.
