I will be moving out of Florida when I graduate from college next spring. Not because of the crime, hot weather or other issues that have been mentioned on this forum before. I just feel that the opportunities in my field (human resources/legal) will be far superior in the northeast than they are here.

Moving out has been pushed back for a few years until I finish college. What do you guys think about the job availability in Oregon, Seattle or w/e you think is best? I'm going to college for equine care/management and my fiance is graduating this year for videography.

I disagree: Rapid City/western South Dakota summers are NOT mild. The last 3 years they have been blazing HOT (hotter temps then Florida) and you can't breathe due to all the forest fires. Although the humidity is lower and the winters are mild in comparsion to it's sister states. To stick with the OP's question, I'd personally stick with North Carolina. The weather is what she likes and you can afford to live there. Western South Dakota, is beautiful and there is a lot of things to do, however, you don't get paid jack. Nearly everyone I knew, including myself, worked two jobs to get by.

We only get 36" per year compared to Orlando's 49". We do get a lot of gray skies over the winter, but we also get seasons, and it even snowed today and was beautiful. It's very affordable to live here as long as you don't want a 3bdrm condo in the upscale area of downtown Seattle. I have a 1200sqft apartment in Redmond for $950/mo which includes utilities.
Seattle has beautiful mountains nearby and a huge lake in the middle of the city. The city has many amazing local bars and restaurants and a great music scene. There are a few questionable neighborhoods around the greater metro area, but they're easy to avoid and most of the criminal element stays in their locale. It's still a big city, so you have to use common sense like avoid dark alleys at night and don't leave valuables visible in your parked car, etc.
If you can find work up here I would highly recommend the Pacific Northwest.

Hi,
I am from NY, but moved to Tampa Fl 3 years ago to be closer to family and escape the cold. But, I miss NY so much. I miss walking, the diversity, the energy, parks, free events and shops. I will probably stay in FL another year or so while my kids are young. Then, we are looking to relocate to Seattle. We are looking for a walkable diverse city that is progressive, has easy access to outdoors, asthetically pleasing and friendly. I'm not too keen on cold and grey days and I have come to love the sun, but I could make some comprimises for the right city.
Seattle seems to have most of what we are looking for in a city, but the home prices seem to be very high. While I was looking,it seems as though you have to spend around $450K -$550K for a decent 3-4 bedroom home. Are there any more reasonably priced neighborhoods? (Lower thank $450?-that aren't too far from the city?
Thanks!

I would recommend Denver, Co. Lived there and loved it. Nothing like the mountains at Christmas time.
