We both hate it here and we're ready for a change.

What we are looking for:

A place that either up north or out west.
Nice snowy winters with warm/mild summers.
A large, lively city close by with quite small towns around it.
LOW LOW LOW crime rate
Decent job market
Decent price of living
We LOVE outdoor activities
Mountains would also be a plus

Places we DONT want:

Let me know what places you think would work best with our list!
I have lived in Michigan, Indiana, North Carolina, Florida, and New Mexico.

For your list, I would consider:

CO - As someone else said, Boulder or Colorado Springs are two great places.
NM - Sante Fe - great skiing, mountains and great people.
and NC - Asheville or Boone area are the keys for skiing, mountains, etc.
(and if you need to goto a beach, its less than 5 hours away!)

I still own land in NC and will build a Log home on it when I get some extra $$. And when the kids head to college.

Absolutely, Raleigh NC. Quality of life, good jobs, low crime, good weather, very friendly people... cant get all those in FL, especially not in a city the size of Raleigh.

Check out the Saratoga Springs area of NY. Lots of equine jobs there. You'll also find jobs in your fiance's field in the Albany-Saratoga region, and NYC is only three hours away.

Very nice area, . Lake George is worth the visit. Bought a vintage boat there several years ago, from an estate. They said the taxes were more than almost anyone could afford however. ( I guess thats all relative ). Great shopping , and restaurants.

I have four close relatives living in Saratoga County. They all feel that the taxes are reasonable for the level of services, education systems, etc. For the most part, the schools in that area are terrific!
