It's really quite nice and it was a tough decision to go to Seminole County because we really cannot get quite as nice a home for our money doing it that way. We really liked Stoney Brook and Eastwood areas particulary...very nice, upscale, new and fresh areas.
Overall, Seminole Co is better than Orange, in almost every single way. Oviedo and Winter Springs are 2 of the nicest towns in Central FL.

You have to ask yourself why is it more expensive in Seminole County to buy a home than it is in East Orlando. I think the answer is obvious. Good luck with your move.

Its probably only going to go up. I hate to sound pessimistic but more people keep moving to the area on top of an economy that's in the crapper.

What areas would that be? I'm guessing you're referring to Crime Hills? Or East Orlando which encompasses a huge area. I don't think people should stay at home for fear of being a victim but it does seem that crime is about as common in the wealthy areas as in the poor. At least in Orlando.

Just like there is no simple answer to why there are so many murders there are no simple solutions. However, there are commonalities among the vast majority of these murders. Drug-related, gun violence, primarily in the impoverished areas of West Orange County. It would only be logical than that we need to put more resources in these neighborhoods and deal with the drug problems. And by deal with the problem you can not simply lock up users and petty criminals. There has to be a comprehensive focus on real drug treatment for addicts to stem the demand, effective drug deterent programs for kids, including after school programs and community centers where kids can feel safe, and good community policing to encourage people to help police their own neighborhoods. Finally people just have to start taking pride and ownership in their communities. When people value where they live, they will tolerate less crime in their neighborhoods. This may sound like liberal mumbo jumbo to some people but we have been huntinbg down and locking up every young male in these neighborhoods for years and it has not worked.

None of this will work until Parents decide to start being parents and stop letting the State raise their children. And when people decide to take individual responsibility for themselves and their actions and not blame 'the man' or 'the economy' or whatever, for all their problems.

Police can police until the jails burst forth and it won't really matter. You know , its just another job opportunity for the next dealer when one goes to jail.

I agree, it definitely starts with the parents. And yes parents must instill in their kids the ideal that regardless of the odds or obstacles they can succeed if they want to. My comments really went more to what the community can do as whole to help the situation but you are absolutely right it's all for nothing unless the proper environment starts in the home.

So out of the 123 murders last year, how many happened in Dr. Phillips, Lake Mary, Heathrow, Celebration, Delaney Park, Thornton Park, Lake Davis etc.

I live downtown where all I hear is I am going to be raped and murdered and my zip code had ZERO murders last year. I will state it until the cows come home - 99.99999999999999 of the murders happen where Cranes Rooster just pointed out. The impoverished west side of Orlando.

You may state it until the cows come home, but the data does not show that, the murders happened in the east, west, south, and north sides of Orlando.

Of the 123 murders in Orange County there was 1 in Winter park, 2 in Eatonville, 4 in South Orlando/Hunter's Creek and 6 in East Orlando. The other 100+ murders happened in neighborhoods that are historically known as impoverished high crime communities. Southeast Orlando (South Semoran area) has been known as a high crime area for some time now as has the 441 corridor leading all the way up to APK. Again my point is that the vast majority murders happen in impoverished, drug and gun ridden areas. Crime can occur anywhere but generally speaking no one is dodgeing bullets in Thornton Park or Baldin Park. We need to focus on stemming the crime where it happens.
