2008 - A record year for murders in Orange County
With 123 murders as of Dec. 28, Orange County surpassed its old record of 121 murders in a single year. Here is a map of where the bodies fell:
Orange County murder map
What can be done to bring this number down during 2009 and beyond? Whose failures are most responsible for this spiking murder rate around Orlando?

Funny question you ask...."Whose failures are most responsible"....well, that is an easy answer. The individual commiting the murder, of course!
Complex solution however. Personally, you notice the trend of increasing murders relates to the houseing bubble (and it's the economy , stupid,..right?) I, personally feel, that crime is not necessarily a racial issue, however, but a socio-economic issue. That sometimes reflects in racial undertones. Minorities tend to be in poorer neighborhoods, but not always the case.
I think families are failing their responsibilities to RAISE THEIR CHILDREN everywhere we turn today. They say, let the schools do it, they can do it better....well, NO THEY CANNOT! Teach your kids morals and values, teach them respect for themselves and others, teach them the value of a hard days work - regardless of the type of work, all work is valuable!!! Teach them about a higher power, of something greater than themselves..teach them to love their country and their fellow countrymen/women. THAT to me, is our greatest failure and the greatest contributor to crime today. Lack of personal responsibility. We teach our kids, that the government will take care of us, and when it does not (of course it does not....it not the job of government...duh!!) what are they left with? But I wannnnnnnnt ittttt!!! Give it to meeeee! Whiny baby brats who just go out and TAKE what they want by whatever means they feel necessary, regardless of the outcome.
Heck , the goverment representatives say, everyday, share the wealth, its not fair, they have more....lets take what they have and give it to the poorer among you, you deserve it. So, why not skip the middle man and just go take it .
Anyway...that is my rambling two cents...lol

Pine Hills and Orange Blossom Trail have always been bad, stay away from those areas and parts of Semoran and you should be okay. And, it's no coincidence that most of these crimes are committed by minorities.

Get way back to basics.
Teach your children to respect authority figures (police / firemen / teachers) and teach by example. Don't talk ill of others while your children are within earshot. Children DO NOT know the difference between venting and plotting revenge.
Teach your children about God and the Bible. Also encourage them to learn about Darwin's Theory of evolution. Teach them to think for themselves without pressuring others to believe what they believe. Do this by example.

I believe she was not 'pushing' but exposing your own children...and not pressure others to believe what you believe..... She also said to teach them Darwin's theories (which my church, the Episcopal, believes walks hand in hand with the Lord - evolution and God are NOT mutually exclusive principals)
Personally, I believe the lack of God in our culture had led greatly to our demise.

Who is committing these crimes? Let's see their pics so we can see if there is a pattern here. Maybe if we were not so forgiving on these criminals and locked them up for life or sent them back to the country they came from, I bet it would cut it down. Instead we have these liberal lawyers getting them reduced sentences, etc and they are back out on the street in no time.
I also think the cops/police chief as well as politicians should be held responsible. I am thinking if a cop/politician thought he would lose his job if there was more crime in his area, I bet he would be watching a bit closer.

What about logistical stuff? For example, are Orange County's police forces undersized? Should more officers be hired? Should more homicide detectives be added?

Philadelphia had a 15% decrease for 2008 and they are attributing this in part to a controversial new tactic by police. They now practice frisking of persons they pull over in vehicles and/or pedestrians. They are searching for guns (illegal ones I am assuming, because they would have to haul me in to take my guns, which are legally owned, and carried). I don't know how many illegal weapons they have confiscated in this manner, and I am not really sure how I feel about this , if it is Constitutional or not...I would need more details I think.
Also, the article says
"Experts blame the illegal gun and drug trades and an increasingly violent street culture"
So, how does one attack ILLEGAL guns (no, not more gun regulations...duh...those regulate legal guns) and drugs coming in to the country? Is that something that can be handled by the Orlando police force? Or do they need help from the Feds? FBI? Coast Guard?
