Smile Safest areas that are fairly affordable

I am possibly thinking about moving to the Orlando area in a couple of years after finishing college.

|--> What are the safest areas of Orlando where a 1 br apartment would be affordable?

|--> Are areas west of Hiwassee Ave (like Winter Garden) more affordable than places like Atramonte Springs? How affordable is Kissimmee compared to WG and AS?

|--> I noticed there are a lot of murders from Hiwassee Ave to I-4. Are adjacent areas Winter Garden and Ococee stable or are they having "crime overflow" problems from West Orlando?

Conway is affordable, as is most of the 32806 zip code west of Conway.
Altamonte Springs is affordable, so is South Chase and Ocoee (these two you have to be more careful about though).

The areas with all the murders that you are looking at on the map are Parramore, Pine Hills, Metrowest. I think there is some spill over and it make areas like Ocoee that would otherwould be really nice kind of average and pockety.

I think Kissimmee is more affordable than Altamonte and WG because it is not very nice at all. Altamonte and Winter Garden also both have areas that are really nice, average, and rundown. For instance:

Altamonte Springs - Spring Lake (really nice), Palm Springs (average), Wymore road complexes and some of the areas of Forest City (rundown).

Winter Garden - areas closer to Windermere (really nice), downtown Winter Garden(rundown).

Ocoee is getting a lot of overrun from Crime Hills. Don't believe me? Go hang out in the Wal-Mart parking lot and see how long before you get mugged or have your car broken into or stolen.

And from there it's spreading into Winter Garden, especially north of 50.

What is an "affordable" 1 br in Orlando - $700? In Kentucky $450 gets you quite a bit of space in an average apartment complex

Depnds on where you want to live. The nicest, safest areas expect to pay minimum $700 for a 1 BR, could go up to over $1000.

Most luxury apartments around here don't include any utilities--not even water.

NowInGreenville is on a distinguished road
Expect to pay around $700-800 for something decent. Depending on what you are looking for, I would recommend Alt.springs, it has everything you need, however traffic can be bad. Altamonte seems to be more heavily populated than Winter Gar. If you want a more suburban feel than choose WG.

Kississmee, I wouldn't even consider. Crawling with tourists. Hwy 192 is an eyesore. All three cities have their share of bad apartment complexes, so be careful when choosing where to rent

You can get a decent place in Lake Mary. It is very safe here. The crime is very low. Check it on Sperlings.com.

What is the main difference btw western areas of the Orlando suburbs (like Winter Garden, Dr Phillips, and Windmere) vs northern areas (like Altamonte Springs, Longwood, Sanford, Deltona)? On Google Street view everything looks the same to me - even high crime areas westward along the toll road look pretty nice . Are the northern suburbs considered more prestigious than the western or southern ones?

I have to make this fast since I am on my way out of the building =)

The north side is further away from worse off areas so in ways it is nicer.
For the most part it is older though, but new and old options are in both locations.
Orlando is pockety and million dollar homes are located in almost every ZIP code, but then so are really nasty homes under the $100k line. You can find a great location in Ocoee, but for the most part Altamonte and Longwood are nicer and safer.
