You can throw all the crime stats and traffic out the window. What I cant get over, now mind you, I am a native and I remember when a lot of Orlando were cow pastures and people would wave hello to one another... but I cant get over the rude people. And I cant get over all the spanish speaking. Two things I have yet to get used to, and I dont want to get used to, so we will be moving. Bitter? Yes. I am. I like to remember Orlando and a lot of FL for the way it was, bit it has changed and turned into a whole other state, and it some instances, another country.

The development IS nice. It has become almost northern-like. You see the northern suburbia influence in many of the new neighborhoods, i.e., "big box" stores (Target, Kohls, Walmart, etc.), eating chains (Buffalo Wild Wings, Chipotle, Olive Garden, Fridays, etc.), Home Depot, Best Buy, and the list goes on. So you definitely see the northern influence based on the demand of folks who migrated from the north, because a lot of this kind of development was up north years ago, I mean, over 10 years ago before I moved here, my neighborhood in suburban Chicago already had these places, Florida is catching up, but not fast enough as far as infrastructure and "crowd control" for lack of better term.

On the other hand, New York City, until recently (past 10 years) did not have many chain stores (Target, Walmart, etc) and restaurants. Most of the stores, even the chains were more of the localized type like Caldor, Bradlees, Pergament, Rickel, The Wiz, etc. When the big box stores moved in, most of these local chains went out of business.

I live in Denver and in general it has very mild winters. Perhaps you are thinking of a mile uphill where the ski slopes are?

I would stay in Denver. Saw your post about a second or rental home in Orlando, I responded to it under that thread. Good time to buy now, considering folks may not be able to qualify for homes under the new lending rules may need to rent, but be very careful about rental property FL, there's plenty for rent and for sale, so you'll have lots of competition. Always a gamble out here.

Can't see why so many people would want to live here. There's no scenery whatsoever. Just strip malls and subdivisions. And the fact that it's flat with not even a distant hill or mountain doesn't make it any better. I can only reason living in big cities up north like NYC and philly must suck so much people think it's actually NICE to live in a swamp. This place--and most of the east coast for that matter--is just crap compared to out west--easterners think outside CA when you think west for once--in general quality of life Just glad most of the northeasterners are generally staying in the East.

Although I surely dont think Orlando is a terrible place to live (I dont like it here, due to all the changes, but I dont think it's terrible), I think that where people are from has a lot to do with it.
I have talked to a lot of people here in Orlando, whether they be from NY/NJ, or Latin America, or PA, and many who are here from Philly, Newark, Chicago, etc... seem to like Orlando the most. I think it has to do with where they're originally from and I think how they see Orlando (even today how it has changed dramatically), it's still (in many cases) an improvement. Whether it be an improvement in crime, weather, schools, etc...
I find that I meet very few people down here from places like GA, TN, and NC. I've only met like 2, and both of them were here for a certain thing (job transfer, training, etc) and both wanted to go back to NC/TN as soon as they could.

Now I think I see where you are coming from in your previous posts.
I am one of those who moved from NY to Orl. That is why I laugh when I look at these "criminals" down in Orlando. I was raised to watch my P's and Q's, and I never had any problems with crimes in the years I lived there (knock wood). I just think a lot of what your hear about in Orlando can be avoided with just a little common sense.

I am one of those who moved from NY to Orl. Of course you did That is why I laugh when I look at these "criminals" down in Orlando. Not sure what you mean by laughing at "these" criminals in Orlando. Can you elaborate? I was raised to watch my P's and Q's, and I never had any problems with crimes in the years I lived there (knock wood). I just think a lot of what your hear about in Orlando can be avoided with just a little common sense.
