Teaching jobs in the Orlando area???
I'm planning on moving in a few months to the Orlando area. Specifically, Seminole county. I'm looking for teaching jobs in and around that area. I'm a veteran teacher of 18 years. I've noticed that there is an on-line application for every district but was wondering when they acutally posted jobs and what the best way to get an interview would be? Should I go to each school and let them know that I'll be here for the next school year? I know the market is tight but I'm very marketable with different certifications.

I hate to tell you but all of the school districts around central florida including Seminole County are making huge cuts in teachers for the next school year, their funding from the state has been cut substancially. It is a really bad time to come here looking for a teaching job.

Does anyone know if I can give my resume to the pricincipal of a school? I'd like to hit the pavement and be proactive. I know that there is an online registration to put in your resume information. But, I also know that principals like to hire someone they've met or know. I know it will be tough but am stil going to try.

No--you need to go through the school board web sites. And I can almost guarantee that unless you are ESL or SpEd certified, you won't be teaching in the Orlando area anytime soon. Every single school district is laying off teachers--some will cut as many as 30% of teaching jobs.

What about Texas?
What about Texas? Maybe they are hiring more teachers?

Alas, what the posters have said is true. Unless you are sporting a Ph.D or Masters in need areas, you will be fighting an uphill battle. You might also look at some of the private schools, and send them your resume. Best if you shop your resume around to as many public and private schools possible.
It sucks that when we attract qualified, experience teachers, we can't grab them to teach our children.
