Going for Kissimmee or East Orlando or Poinciana... UGH! Your quality of life will deteriorate, neighbors will play loud music at 3am every night, violence, gangs on the street, etc.[/quote]

I don't think you'll have a problem with this in my part of EAST Orlando - i.e. Stoneybrook EAST, Avalon Park, Waterford Lakes, Vista Lakes, Lake Nona.

Me either pianogal. We're in a gated golf course community in East Orlando (Waterford area) and we have a great quality of life without violence, gangs and loud music! I've heard loud music maybe a few times during someone's pool party but that is about it. It's so quiet you can hear a pin drop. There seems to be several East Orlando locations that people are talking about.

Exclamation It is cute, with some major downsides.

Waterford and Lake Nona are expensive and yes, they are nice areas, BUT you will be near all the undesirable areas, namely: Goldenrod, Dean road, Semoran, Alafaya (north of 50), Colonial - SR-50, etc. The Walmart for that area is on Colonial and that Walmart has been robbed and people shot in the parking lot several times before in the past.

Living in the Waterford/Lake Nona areas of East orlando would be like living in MetroWest. It is nice, cute, very well landscaped, pretty - but besieged by the ghetto. You also have a lot of UCF students DUIs at night in that area and crazy rednecks and Mexicans who use meth coming south to East Orlando from Bithlo. Yikes!

Lake Mary, Winter Springs, Heathrow, etc are nice. I like Seminole county much better than Orange Co and I definitely like Seminole Co better than Osceola!

There IS a very good reason why people who live in the nicer areas of East Orlando have to live in gated communities, often patroled by armed security!

Maybe I missed the bus here, but SANFORD is NOT a nice area. Yes, there is a ton of new constructions, but please, Sanford is mostly ghetto and buying into that area comes with a stigma! People hear "Sanford" and they think "yuck". Maybe in time that will change, but ask locals and they will be repulsed by the idea of buying into Sanford.

Truth to be told, Orlando as a whole is ghetto for the most part. Crime, gangs, that's all bull, people here don't have a clue of what crime really is...some guy gets shot or arrested in a bad neighborhood, and everybody freaks out, and anybody that wear big pants and shirts and is not white, automatically becomes a gang member....please, is time to put a stop to stupidity. You said you want to be close to UCF and the Airport, so East Orlando is the way to go. Avoid anything really close to Colonial (50) at all cost. Dean and Alafaya are all right, there may be the occasional unconsiderable dude that listen to loud music really late or drive like a maniac in a really noisy car....but for the most part, is alright. If you want avoid all that, go north....Altamonte Springs, Winter Park, Maitland, Longwood and Lake Mary...now your commute to either UCF or the Airport will suck big time. I would live in the northern Orlando metro area myself, but I work in Brevard County, so is way too damn far. Good luck, and ignore all the crime, gang, dangerous, blah blah blah posts here, there is just a lot of ghetto ass people around since the major economic source here is tourism (that means a low skill workforce).

I post on this board to give helpful information to newcomers and to visit with online friends I have made here. But I get so tired of the same people giving the same exaggerated negative drivel for every post. This forum has so much potential to do so much good....it's too bad you have to weed through all the trash to get to the good stuff. Sorry, guess I've about had enough.

Default St. Cloud still a good choice

I moved to St. Cloud from Miami 8 yrs. ago and raised two children who both graduated high school here. Much better than Miami in all ways. Good activities for kids, easy access to Orlando, and coast.
I live 3 miles outside of town but in city limits, can get on turnpike north in 5 minutes, and be in downtown Orlando in about 40 min.
Have a house for sale under $225, only because kids are gone, and I belong in the mountains. Not in a flood plain, neighborhood is established.
I would recommend this area.

Interjecting: Once while living in Orlando my Kansas bred cousin came to visit me. Took him down OBT and per usual the hookers were milling about. Sure enough at a red light here comes a larger black woman sporting a loud orange wig...jumps on the hood of my car & begins gyrating. I thought my poor smalltown cousin was going to explode into flames he was so beet red! LMAO! Not a good area.
We lived in Sand Lakes in a nice new subdivision(back then). Loved my grocery store Goodings. Quiet area. Have chosen Orlando as one of the 9 places we've bid into with UPS. Has plenty to offer & very livable city! Good Luck 2 u!

ioda0006, I live nr waterford lakes in an older home which I'm trying to sell right now. I am 4 miles from ucf and 20-25 mins to the airport, east orlando is safer and quieter than west, as most of the "tourist attractractions" are on the west side. waterford lakes has nice newer homes but more expensive I'd say 250+ to live there or more. where I am in bonneville 32826 its cheaper 160+ but the houses are older.
