Truly there is a compromise location that Nirvana mentioned that kinda fits the exact bill of what the original poster had in mind that is just east of Orlando and that is Oveido. It's within a stone's throw of UCF, is relatively close to the airport and has the advantage of being in the Seminole County School System (Either Oveido High or the brand new Hagerty High)....
I'd say look there....

IM a local and I beg the differ. Not from Sanford but by observation over the years its a lot nicer than most towns Ive seen across florida. People need to get rid of this 80s stigma and enter the 21st century.
You have to look at it this way since home prices have gone crazy from longwood and lake mary most people who are making high incomes are moving out to sanford, deltona, debary areas. 300k+ home prices. Ive looked and still looking for a home. Crazy prices.

Relocating to Orlando now! Need help Fast
I am relocating to the Orlando area very soon, in July from the Melbourne, Satellite Beach area. Iam looking in the zip code areas 32837,32824,32828. How are these areas? I will be working in the Ocoee/ Pine Hills area. How is this commute?

I don't think you'll have a problem with this in my part of EAST Orlando - i.e. Stoneybrook EAST, Avalon Park, Waterford Lakes, Vista Lakes, Lake Nona. [/quote]
i heard that area of Orlando is getting bad but wouldn't know cuz i haven't been to that area

The east side of Orlando is getting worse than say 3-4 years ago, but it is not the worst part of town to live in by any means. I have always felt like the houses were cheap looking and priced low in parts of Waterford and Chuluota, Andover, etc. but there are nicer areas in SE Orlando like Stoneybrook east, and south of there by the entrance of Avalon Park. The south section of Avalon Park is also nicer than the north section of Avalon Park closer to Colonial. I think the worst parts of the eastern side of town are still in Azalea park, Goldenrod, and Union Park. If you take a drive down Lake Underhill, or Goldenrod, E Colonial, or Dean you will be able to tell the area is more low income than areas west of Semoran or east of Rouse. The areas get a lot nicer along and north of University as well. Some of the areas along Econlockhatchee south of Lake Underhill and along Chickasaw Trail are nicer as well. I just think the eastside has a cheapened feel that the SW side, central areas, and the northern suburbs do not have as much of. That last sentence is just my opinion though!

Union park and Azalea park are not even close. Union park might be a working class population but it`s not like it`s ganglando over here.
I have lived in union park area for 20 years and never had a problem with crime, yes crime is here but I would hardly call union park a high crime area.
