Criminality in Orlando, worse than in Miami/New York?
I keep hearing horror stories about Orlando and it is very difficult for me to assume that all of Orlando is bad.
I want to put this in perspective, is Orlando worse than Miami? Worse than New York? I haven't lived in Orlando, that is the reason for my question.
I used to live in West Palm Beach and then moved to Gainesville, and actually, nothing bad happened to us despite hearing that West Palm Beach was the most ghetto place ever to live. We actually liked it, we were living by Palm Beach Lakes Blvd and I was able to work for a bank. My car was left outside every night (the apartment was a low income community) and no one did anything to it. I really think it depends where you are located, so what places in Orlando we want to avoid?? I keep hearing to choose Clermont , but isn't that like 45 minutes away from Orlando?

However.... You have to be really careful looking at these zip codes.... because in some cases they encompass a huge and very diverse area..
Take 32819.... Listed as one of the highest crime rates on the list.... but 32819 also makes up a large portion of Dr. Phillips including multi-million dollar homes in Bay Hill.
Do not dispel a neighborhood JUST because its zip code pops up near the top of this list.

I just love that my new zip code (32832) has less crime than Windermere and Dr. Phillips.
I might just go vandalize some cars in Baldwin Park to push them past me also

May I ask you where you obtained this information? I need to get a crime grid for an area in Orlando and found your information helpful. Thank you.

I fully agree that these zip codes are not always perfect for judging an area, since there are quite a few of those that have both good and bad areas included. I should have posted this link to start with, where you can access the crime map to look at exactly where the crimes occurred in the zip code.
It is on the orlando sentinel website. To get the full listing with the % breakdown, click on "Browse Crime Data" and then "Nearby Neighborhood / Zip Code" to find it.

Forgot to also mention... I think this is the raw data from police reports, so these are not adjusted for population like the other stats that you commonly read in national crime reports.

New York isn't a dangerous city anymore! Out of the 30 largest cities (which do include Miami and Orlando) in America, New York is the safest one! The crime in New York can now be comparable to many small towns.

New york is much safer, they have had 251 murders down 80 from last year. If Orlando had the population of New york it would have about 331.
