Default Apopka?

Can anyone give me any info on the Apopka area? How is the crime in that area? I'm looking at the Verandahs at Hunt Club apartments.

Apopka, in name, is a very large area. For instance, the area you are referring too, although technically called Apopka, is more Altamonte Springs/Wekiwa. That area is fine and actually fairly convenient however the traffic is very heavy throughout the day on the main thoroughfare, 436. As you head west you get into the "real" Apopka. Overall it's nice but south Apopka is a rough. The general rule is as long as your north of 436 you should be ok. But again in your area that rule doesn't really apply. That area is fine.

This is my post in the same forum, FYI but it agrees with what Crane's Rooster stated:

The Hunt Club area in general is pretty nice. The parts of Apopka that you should steer away from are the downtown area and South Apopka. The nicer areas are around Errol Estates, Wekiva, Sweetwater, etc. If you look in that general area on a map, from downtown Apopka the nicest areas are NW, N, NE and East of downtown. SW, S and SE of downtown are the bad areas. The nicer you get to Longwood/Lake Mary it gets nicer for the most part, as well.
