We pay about $900.00 a year with State Farm for a 2004 Ford Truck and $800.00 for a 2001 Buick. We're in Orlando.

thanks--that's not bad--I'm paying $2000/year here in the Bronx (and that's after the insurance points finally came off for my tickets--I was paying $3200/year for awhile)

My car insurance for 1 car (2007 Mitsu) is $800 for 6 months (that is $1,600 a year). I have rwally shopped to get this rate. I also live far away from the ocean and are less prone to hurricane danger. |

I did a search to get quotes on what our car insurance would be if we lived in Lake Co. It's just a few dollars a year less then we pay here in So. Dak. Two vehicles, full coverage~1200 per year. We also have good credit and did have two small accidents, but that's within the last 35 years and I don't know how long accidents count against you. The last one was about 15 yrs. ago.
I'm guessing that places like Orlando or Tampa or Miami would up our insurance by quite a bit since our vehicles are very comparable to Pianogal's. Just substitute "Buick" for Pontiac and we're pretty close. |

My insurance is with GEICO and we have shopped rates. The only way we can go lower on the insurance is if I go with some crappy company like Advantage or Cash Register insurance. These are horrible and if you get into an accident and you get injured, FL is a no-fault state, so your own insurance pays your own medical bills, so if you have low coverage or a crappy insurance company, you are toast. Insurance in FL is the #4 most expensive in the USA. No matter how you look at it, insurance for car and home will cost you and arm and a leg. I carry uninsured motorist coverage, which is optional, but in FL, if you don't get it and some illegal hits you (which happens almost every day in Orlando) or you get injuried more than just a fender-bender, you are toast. Make sure to get quotes in FL asking for uninsured motorist coverage. That is vital!! |

We checked with GEICO. Their quote was much higher than what we have with State Farm. Perhaps it's because we've had insurance with state farm since the dinosaurs were here... LOL
Our son (23) is also insured with State Farm under our policy - his insurance is 1200.00 a year and he has had 2 minor accidents. He drives a Pontiac FireBird. |

your rate could also be higher because there may be a lot of insurance fraud in the area where you live (that is a problem some places here)

I have State Farm for my home insurance and had it for renter's. Doing a home-car combo with them would NOT save us any money.
Seems like everytime we try to get a new quote for car insurance, the rates we get are almost always higher... they keep going up and up, just like home insurance, but in a slightly slower pace. I will call to get more quotes and let you all know. |
