::::Shudder:::: Texas/Americana area. Fine to drive through during the day, but I avoid it entirely at night.

Too true...I'd walk thru Pine Hills before I'd drive thru this area and the Parramore/South street area.

But then again I live a block out of the so called "ghetto" they call Pine Hills and know it's not as bad at the media likes to portray.

The worst areas are Parramore (32805), Pine Hills (32808), The OBT/Oak Ridge area (this includes the Americana/Texas Ave area 32839).

Some secondary areas to avoid are Azalea Park/Goldenrod (32807 and 32822), downtown Kissimmee area (34741), South Apopka (32703), Union Park (32825), Lockhart (32810) and there are some areas of Sanford to avoid (32771) but not that whole zip code is bad.

Just an FYI - Parramore didn't have a murder for an entire year! I just read that recently in some Arena propaganda.

So Crime Hills actually is much worse these days.

EDIT - it briefly mentions the lack of homicide, but this article says crime has dropped 51% in Parramore.

Crime Down 51 Percent In Parramore - News Story - WFTV Orlando
The only reason crime has dropped in Parramore is because OPD has stationed half of thier force there and the FBI is workign a special task force there. Add in the fact that half of the gangsters have offed the other half and a bunch of the crackheads have offed themselves. It's still a bad area, and not one I'd ever suggest anyone venture into.

I wasn't suggesting people hang out there, but the reality that a year has gone by without a murder is miraculous. I went to about 10 concerts at Amway last year and honestly didn't see the type of "activity" I had seen in the past.

Unless you're going to buy drugs or a prostitute I think driving through the area is pretty safe. People are making it out to be like Cabrini Green in Chicago where you could get shot just driving by.

The area around the arena/stadium/Tinker Field/Carr and between them and I-4 and the 408 are VERY well patrolled on nights that there is an event.

Where you don't want to be is on Parramore Ave around 2:00 am. I got lost trying to get onto the 408 when they were doing all the construction and ended up over there one night after leaving the Social. VERY SCARY!! And to be honest, I did worry about getting shot just for driving by.

I imagine the city is hoping the new arena starts pushing the safe areas out further. They showed the area in LA where the Staples Center was before it was built...straight ghetto. It is now a thriving shopping and dining area. The people that funded the Staples Center believe the Orlando Events Center will do the same in Orlando.

However, the recent shooting in College Park is extremely concerning. It's like these people have zero fear of being caught. Another dead body on OBT two nights ago. Place is out of control.

Sooner or later the drug addicts will all OD or jump off a bridge, and the gang bangers will all kill each other off. Give it time.
