I heard it on one of the local news stations this morning. Police apparently know who the driver is--but were not releasing the name of the cab company until the person is located.
I really feel very bad for the victim. Besides being assaulted, the guy ended up dropping her off at her home--so he knows exactly where she lives. How is she supposed to sleep--or anything else?????

I am moving to Florida to go back to college. I am trying to find a good area for my family & I. I have a 12 yr old and do not want him to get in w/the bad crowd. I am looking at a apt. (Regency Oaks) in Fern Park. Could someone let me know what it is like there? Thanks for all the info you can give me.

I've lived in both zip codes of 32822 and 32807 and I have to say I never had any trouble. It is so quiet and different from what I'm used to in Philadelphia

The area of 32825 just off Curry Ford is quite nice. Woodland Lakes Preserve (a beautiful, new gated community) as well as Cypress Springs are both in 32825 and are very safe. However, I agree the area adjacent to Hwy. 50 is questionable. Like so much of Orlando, there are bad 'pockets' in relatively close proximity to very nice communities.

I agree. I like the Cypress Springs area and the Andover area is average to nice in parts. I like the Rio Pinar/Chickasaw Farms area as well, it is mainly Union Park that I do not like and warn when I advise with this zip code. The area right along 50 from about Goldenrod to Rouse and the worst neighborhoods tend to be in the area south of Colonial and north of the 408. The area around the Valencia Community College east campus is disgusting to me. It is just about the worst area IMO east of downtown.

This is in crime rates per 100,000 people. These crime rates are much higher then the City I live in, Austin, TX which is a larger city.
I know that in every City most of the crime occurs in specific neighborhoods, so we would like to avoid those areas if at all possible. Unfortunately, my efforts to identify those area by looking at the Orlando Police Dept. and State of Florida law enforcement websites have not been fruitful. Its so hard to find that data I'm inclined to think they are hiding it on purpose. That kind of data, sorted by zip-code is easy to find on the City of Austin website. City of Austin - Crime Information
Since I don't yet know the "neighborhood" names, I would appreciate it if some of you could identify what zip-code areas to avoid. This zipcode map makes it easy to identify the areas.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you count Metro area, then Orlando is twice the size of Austin.
and
If you stick to the tourist areas, you will get ROBBED, but legally. IE) they will take your money big time, but they wont need a gun to do it.
