You know I find it funny that people in Florida always like to blame transplants for all the problems.

Granted FL does attract a lot of lowlifes, but I believe that has to do with the lax laws here. Just read of a story where I guy got arrested for DUI. This was his 5th DUI and his DL has been suspended 15 times.

In most states you can't get 5 DUIs and still be out running around.

But at the same time there is plenty of homegrown trash. The family of Haleigh Cummiings is a perfect example.

Look at the stories coming out of Polk County. The couple who did the hit and run and left a teenage girl to die on a fence. The wife had no DL and they tried to cover it up. Two rednecks living in a broken down trailer. She drove because she wasn't as drunk/high as he was, but she had no DL.

They aren't "yankees".

These are natives. There is a subculture of people living here, the likes of which you don't see in other states to the extent that you do here.

Someone notify the anthropologists. I'm sure they'd be interested in this new 'breed' that lives in Florida.

I'm confused. You think the.. heat.. is to blame for the weird news stories you saw? This is just plain silly. Weird stuff happens all over the world. I guess its just me but its really hard for me to be shocked by the news anymore. Theres parts of China where they eat and sale dead babies. I wonder what part of the climate you would blame for that? LOL. According to this logic, I need to move to the North Pole so nothing weird will ever happen again.

There have been studies showing crime increases with the heat.

This article is from Alabama, so it can happen anywhere; but is is hotter for longer periods of time and more often in Florida, than most other states.

Call me silly...but heat equals cranky in a lot of areas. Geez nomadic, I wasn't trying to write a dissertation on the subject, just getting a conversation going.

Some of those stories aren't necessarily related to heat in my opinion, but yes, I believe the heat gives a lot of people much shorter fuses and hotter tempers. Couple that with crazy driving, rudeness, and people who don't have their car air conditioning fixed, then you pretty much have a recipe for disaster in the "land where magic happens".
