No, there is not alot of crime in Winter Park. There are a couple of 'pockets' where there may be some crime, but overall Winter Park is one of the nicest, most upscale communities in the Central Florida area. I recently moved to Orlando proper after living in Winter Park for about 20 years. We moved because my husband's mother moved in with us and we needed a larger home. We couldn't find/afford one we liked in Winter Park, so we moved to a new area in east Orlando (Lake Nona) and built a home. However, there are things about Winter Park that I miss - traffic is NOT one of them. However, I do miss Park Ave and the proximity to shopping and restaurants I had there.

There are some pockets of Winter Park where there is crime. The appartments located near the intersection of Aloma and 436 are targeted by criminals. Also, the Winter Park Pines and Winter Park Estates neighborhoods off of Aloma (near Whole Foods) have experienced a continual rash of car break-ins and some vandalism. There are slightly higher incidences of crime in that part of Winter Park between 17-92 and New York Avenue. Nothing to be too concerned with, though. Again, the real problems are in the appartment complexes at the 436/Aloma intersection.

Pritchard is right on target. Stay away from Aloma and 436 ( Semoran ). To be on the safe side I would stay west of N. Lakemont Ave. Also avoid Lee Road and Fairbanks around I-4.

ok there is crime everywhere, even winter park, even your favorite $3 million up gated community where teenagers still get drunk and do stupid stuff, too. as soon as i checked out the forum today i see several posts/threads related to crime in winter park? come on, if i ever lived in orlando you can be sure it would be in whatever i can afford as close to park ave as possible or on a lake nearby. winter park is the only area of orlando that i truly love, is not too suburban, is upscale, is not gated, is close to the action but has its own action, etc. it reminds me more of home than anywhere else in orlando. it has a name attached to it. my uncle had to move there from chicago once a while back, and even then it had a name attachment and he moved there. simply because it is "winter park." you pay extra for that type of lifestyle. i am sure the police there are "extra" diligent if you know what i mean. plus there is probably a neighborhood security that you can pay for to patrol your house (they are always rip offs by the way and all they can do is call the cops...they are usually old men that do not stand a chance against a bunch of drunk and wild teens or gangstas with ak's). go for winter park, sacrifice the fake stucco community wall and just buy a mansion with your own gate and private guard/guardhouse. winter park is more that type of community (the latter).

I have been in Central Florida over 30 years and I can tell you the crime has gotten bad every where. Winter Park has it's nice areas if you can afford it... but for my money I would take Windermere. The police are very protective of their little slice of heaven. It has a sweet but small downtown and good schools. It doesn't hurt that Iseworth is just around the corner, home of many notables including Tiger Woods.
We live in the Ocoee area (West Orange County) it use to be small town but has really boomed. I am actually looking for areas in NC to relocate.

I don't think this could be further from the truth. I find the others, although nice, lack what Winter Park has... character and charm.
