I'm an out of towner and interested in renting an apartment at Sand Lake Pointe complex but I'm not very familiar with the area. Could anyone tell me if the area is safe? How about the complex? Does anyone knows this complex? I need to be close to Downtown but rents are to high for a single mother.

32809 is not the best zip code, it is mainly commercial (around Florida mall) and industrial (South and west of the Florida Mall). A lot of the neighborhoods in there like Sky Lake are not that great. Areas that are adjacent to Belle Isle are okay but the majority of this zip code is not there. I would not suggest moving to this part of town. The only advantage is that you would be really close to a lot of shopping and chain dining, so it is convenient but that is the only reason to pick this spot.

It seems to get much nicer as you go south of 32809, below the Beachline.
