Hi all, I just moved to the Orlando area from MA. I'm over 21 and have a MA learner's permit but have never had a license anywhere.

Can I drive in Florida on my MA Learner's Permit until I get my FL Driver's License? Can I use my MA LP to take the road test or will I have to take courses/ get a FL learner's permit (even though I am over 21) before I can take the test?

Any help would be very appreciated. I have had no luck whatsoever trying to reach someone at the four nearest dmv offices. Thanks, Adam.

NO. Your learners permit is ONLY good in the state it was issued in. You'll need to apply for a new learners permit in Florida which requires taking a six hour course and an test, plus a vision test and providing proof of identity and residence. Your age has nothing to do with it.

Default I see

Thanks. I just wasn't sure because in Mass. When you get your DL over 21 you don't have to take any courses. You can get your permit then get you DL the next day if you wanted to. Thank you.

Does the Dmv set you up with classes. Or do you have to find a place yourself?

You need to do it yourself, there are some online sites you can go to.

Not offhand, I had a license when I moved here. My son got his here, but got his permit almost four years ago, so I don't remember much about it these days, sorry.

you can take the course online and take the permit test online, then just go down to the dmv and get your license after 24 hours, and of course you have to take a driving test at the DMV in order to get your license.

Do you have a drivers license issued by a US State? If so, you should be able to take the written test and an eye exam and be issued a Florida license, if not you will need to pass the test for a learners permit, take the required course (I can't remember if it's three or six hours), and take a behind the wheel road test. Your age has no bearing on this.

Of course you'll also need all of the various ID and proof of address that's required.
