Jack Benny's in Minneola, most people like Sonny's which is a chain with multiple locations, and the king of BBQ in the area is Brodus in Groveland, only open Friday and Saturday. Get there early they always sell out, and it's only available "to-go."

I did miss out on mentioning Mama B's! We were regulars there when our office was downtown.
While Firehouse subs is good, I still like Publix.

Lol...nope, a Grinder is a Hoagie that has been nicely toasted in that huge pizza oven to brown the top and melt the cheese...especially those meatball grinders....yummy!!!! (regional differences are so amusing to me! LOL) And we all know that New Englanders have no clue what a real sandwich is either. They are Philly-centric.

See the Hoagie origins here
History Hoagie Sandwich, History Submarine Sandwich, History Po' Boys Sandwich, Poor Boy Sandwich, History Dagwood Sandwich, History Italian Sandwich
Second sammy listed....originated in Philly for the men working on Hog Island...very likely how it got the name also.... Or some similar version..there are a few listed...they are entertaining at least..but Hoagie seems to be the Original name.
And, if you go to the very last sammy, apparently there is some technical difference between a hoagie and a submarine sam...who knew? Haha!!!

not sure what kind of sub your looking for but if its a jersey style italian sub than jersey mikes is the closest thing to the real deal ive been able to find in 18 years. I was in nj last week (visiting my old stomping grounds) and had a few subs and I still cant find an exact match..jersey mikes is very very close. there is something different about it and im not sure what it is but i feel like saying it something about the cheese too. I dont think florida gets some of the brands that are available in nj. The search continues, ha ha

I will cast my vote for Publix, although I don't eat any subs down here at all. But my Mom (who for the record is from Philadelphia) won't let me get her any kind of sandwich from anywhere but Publix, and she absolutely loves their Italian subs. As for myself, one of the things on the small list of things I miss about Delaware is Wawa home-style roast beef subs. I don't eat plants on bread or any kind of sandwich with more than one ingredient, so subs of any kind have never been big with me, but the home-style roast beef at Wawa was amazing. Also, Utz potato chips and beaches with real boardwalks.
