I may be getting a job in East Orlando (near UCF), but I also have family who live in Tallahassee, so I'd like to find a nice place to live that is between Ocala and UCF so as to make the travel time between home and work, as well as home and Tallahassee more manageable.
The actual distance between the location of my family in Tallahassee and the location of my job site is 268 miles -- a 4 hour drive. I would not mind having to drive as much as 90 minutes to and from my job every day, so that gives you a rough idea of the travel perimeter I've set up around the new home. From Ocala to my job site is about 90 minutes, so that will tell you why I picked Ocala as the uppermost starting point. OK, is it possible for me to do the following: Find a small home around 200k in a safe area that is located between Ocala and East Orlando (specifically, the intersection of University Drive and SR 417 , aka Central Florida Greenway), and one that is easily accessible to SR408 (and/or) the Turnpike? Thanks for your help. |

Well, how often are you going to head up to Tallahassee? I would rather live closer to work and then just take an extra 30mins to an hour to go up north.
But if you want to live between Ocala and UCF I would say Leesburg, Mt. Dora, Eustis, Tavares, Apopka, Altamonte Springs (getting closer to UCF), Longwood, Maitland, and Oviedo (which is right next to UCF). All those cities I mention are in the Northern half of Orlando. I mean, Im looking at a map here and what you're describing just seems brutal. 90 min commute back and forth everyday? Wow, thats gonna be tough. I live in Altamonte Springs and getting to UCF in the morning takes a lil less than an hour. Its only 20 miles too. You can try west Orlando, like Clermont, Ocoee, or Winter Garden. Easier access to the Turnpike - 423 - 408. Good luck |

And to be 100% honest, you will have to pay at least $230,000 - $260,000 for a home in that crappy area. East Orlando has turned into Mexico, it is very bad there now. You walk into Walmart or K-Mart or any food stores, EVERYONE will be speaking in Spanish. All the billboards in that area are in Spanish. Loud Spanish music at 3am is normal... unless a hurricane is coming by or something. Gang fights, grafitti.... just awful. A lot of white people are leaving that area and that is called "white flight" and are moving to where I live (in Lake Mary) or to Seminole county , where it's about 80% American/Engl;ish speakers. There are some multi-millionaries in East Orlando (far away from anywhere you can afford to live), so some people here will say East orlando is "nice". You are in America and you are free to believe whatever you want, so I suggest you take trip down to East orlando and see it for yourself. East Orlando is horrible for the most park. I lived there for 6 months, I hated every minute of it. So much gang violence and drugs on the street... very depressing. It is a piece of crap. Now Ocoee is not so bad. Winter Garden has some nice new construction too. Same goes for many other areas in Seminole County. One option is to live in Oviedo anhd take the 417 down to your job and you should get ther in like 10 - 20 mins. Oviedo is very nice too. ![]() |

If you are looking for a place between Ocala and UCF, you should be looking in the Mt. Dora/Eustis/Leesburg area. There's no way your driving from Ocala to UCF during rush hour in 90 minutes. More like two hours in heavy traffic. Actually, there are some new "house farms" just south of the toll booth on the Trunpike - that would be the 1/2 way point between UCF and Ocala, and would be the fastest way to get to both. I forget the name of the subdivision - but you can allways recognize it because it sits atop one of the tallest hills in Central Florida - orange clay and all.

Eustis is a lovely historic town between Ocala and UCF. very nice historic town next to Mt. Dora w/o Mt. Dora prices. There are several homes up for sale like ours. Good luck.
By the way the commute from Eustis to UCF is about 45 via the expressway ... i travel it once a week to UCF |

Actually, that I want to relocate to a place that will be closer to Tallahassee because my daughter visits me every other weekend, and I do not want to change her drive from a 2 1/2 one to a 4 hour one (or more).

You can find a home for that price in Ocala area, look east Ocala or summerfield area then you could travel I 75 to turnpike to Orlando, nice small areas. I looked in that area New 3/2, about 1400-1600sq from 150-200k, orange blossom hills
