Commute from Lake Mary to Apopka
Hi everyone,
I am moving to the area. I am looking to live in the Lake Mary area because I want to stay in a safer area and from my research it seems to be pretty nice. I will be working in Apopka off of Orange Blossom Trail. Can someone give me a realistic expectation of what this commute will be like? I mapped it to be about 15 - 18 miles but I hear horror stories about the I-4 commute. Please help!! Thanks

You're probably looking at a 35-45 minute drive. Have you considered Mount Dora? that's a very safe area as well, and would keep you off of I-4.
Welcome!

Try looking in Altamonte and Lake County (Mt. Dora, Eustis, Tavares). There are back roads to APK from Lake Mary which you can avoid I-4. You can take Markham Woods to 434 to 436, that would probaly be about a 25 minute drive. I really don't think it would be that bad of a commute if you avoid I-4.

As has been said, there are definitely some back roads you can take to avoid I-4. However, for what it's worth, much of the I-4 traffic is south of Apopka.... or West of Apopka. However, it is I-4, and yes, it is a nightmare.

I live in Lake Mary and the I-4 drive isn't all that bad to the Route 434 Longwood exit, maybe 10 - 12 minutes extra if backed up and getting onto I-4 at Longwood exit is a little time consuming. If you have a GPS with traffic alerts or listen to the AM radio stations you should be OK.
There are some great communities in Mt. Dora area also just off Route 429 near the new outdoor shopping mall.

There are some areas of Apopka that are VERY nice, just next to the Seminole county line. (In fact, some houses have Apopka addresses, but are in Seminole county!)

Has the most recent listings for houses. Just type in Apopka in the Neighborhood box and click GO.

I commute from Lake Mary into Downtown, and that is the worst stretch of I-4. It usually takes me a 1/2 hr to 45 mins.
You will probably get off on 434 or 436 which will be much easier.
ALSO,
If the traffic report says there is an accident or jam on I-4, you could take SR 46 West to 435 South to come into Apopka the back way.
AND when the new toll beltway is complete you will be able to loop into Apopka unopposed (for a fee)
so you have at least 3 options.
(more if you tried some other back-roads)
It WONT be too bad.
