Gabmer, Obviously you've never lived anywhere else! Orlando does not have high property taxes, not compared to the upper Midwest, which is half again higher than Orlando taxes. Orlando also has much cheaper untilities than the midwest. It also has the friendliest people, I've met yet! Try living in the upper midwest and see what rude people are really like. All I can say, is you don't know how good you have it in Orlando and I haven't even talked about the weather or Disney fun or the beaches. Soo much to do.

Philly has many suburbs and they are not all the same. You live in Oviedo which is 19 miles away from the city of Orlando. I have many co-workers that moved up here from Florida and their auto insurance has gone down, ofcourse non are 72 years old.

Why dont you do the same and check insurance rates in the Union Park section of Orlando. I could also go east and be in Haddonfield and Cherry Hill so whats your point. You and many former northerners that are now northern bashers try to make these sweeping generalizations that everything is cheaper in Florida when it is not true. The loss of employment opportunities, low wages, and many other factors make Florida and especially the Orlando area undesirable for many.

Another friend is a emergency medicine nurse and is making more here in the Orlando area than she was in NJ--she was recruited to work for an ER here, and wasn't going to move unless they gave her a good reason to. (ie show me the money.)

I make more in marketing here than I did in NYC.

There ARE good paying jobs here for those who have skills and experience. Just because YOU didn't have the ability to land one, it doesn't mean that no one does.

The Orlando that I know is quite different than what one or two other people on this board seem to think.

If I were to move to a new random city and get a bad, low paying, entry level job, and live in poor conditions, I'd probably have a bad taste in my mouth when I moved away too. I'm not saying that's what happened to anyone in particular, but it's an example to show that one person's experience doesn't translate into complete truth.

I think you'll find that the ones making the most sweeping generalizations on this forum are the people who don't live in this area, or lived here for a short period of time.

There is waaay too much regional pride going on, to the point where it's clouding people's judgment. If we can set all that aside, we'll see that we aren't all that different.

My point was, your statement that areas in Orlando have high rates of auto theft AND you moved to an area that has similar regionalization. Move ten miles (give or take how far exactly you are away from Camden - it's not far though) and YOUR area has high rates of auto theft also. I was only pointing out that ALL geographic areas can and do have regionalized area of crime and criminal elements.

As for my hubby's salary - how rude of you to assume I am a liar. Thank you for those who are defending me. I WILL not put forth what he makes, however I will tell you he spent over 20 years at Boeing as an Engineer and ran into the imposed salary caps there. If he wanted to go on the management career path there, he would have had to take a serious pay cut for a number of years in order to get both career and salary growth in the long term and would have eventually run into the same caps again. HERE he is working for a private engineering firm as the Head of Engineering, was given a large salary increase, signing bonus, and moving expenses. He has a computer science BS and a Master Degree in Electrical Engineering. In addition, the person who hired him has know him since college. It just so happened that he had all things going for him, the degree, the contacts, and the skill set. I was not stating it was the norm for down here, but it is here. He is also in the highly demanded field down here of flight sim.

You are soooooooooo wrong, I have lived in 3 other states. It seems that you are the one that has not lived in any other place. Real Estate taxes (which is what I was talking about) are very high here, friendly people in Orlando?. To me weather and entertainment does not equate to high living standards, I look at other things, economy, crime, housing, education, wages and well.... hate to say it Orlando is in the bottom of all these lists.

I dont have a bad, low paying entry level position nor live in poor conditions but you are describing exactly what happens in Orlando. Not sure what "pride" you are talking about the vast mayority of people that live in Orlando are not from this region.

Why always compare Orlando to NJ and NY, there are many other states out there that have a much higher quality of life. Not sure what your point is?
