Default Rental Homes vs. Apartments?

I've been looking at apartments and rental homes and they seem to be the same monthly price. Are there any perks or cons to one or the other.

I prefer a home. More privacy with a house and a back yard. Apartment complexes usually bread crime because of the close proximity of people living in one space which also causes noise problems in my experience. However, with a home you will probably have a higher electricity bill/water and maybe have to pay for sewer and trash pick-up as well. I would go with a home but that is just a matter of taste (also where the home is located).

Appartments: Professional management, pool and other amenities, landscaping and all other outside needs taken care of for you. Relatively expensive.

Rental House: Mostly inexperienced landlords, questions about who is to take care of lawn (some provide lawncare, others expect you to do it), boring for young single people, maintenance is a little more on the shoulders of the tenant, possibly more interaction with landlord than once-a-year signing new lease. Best deal going right now for renters!

Personally, if you just look at the economics, it's a no-brainer at the rates appartments are charging compared to rental homes.
