Default Looking for a change. Ft. Lauderdale up to Orlando . Any advice?

I am looking into making a move out of south Florida. My wife and I have found ourselves a little weary of the crowded and somewhat obnoxious southeast Florida scene.(as with anywhere it's not everyone just getting to me I'm not a Florida bashed) We want to start a family and don't want to live anywhere it snows. We want a little slower pace and are looking for a little more of a small town fell where people say please an thank you or hello how are you , ect. I realize theat in the city of Orlando it probably will be very similar to fort lauderdale but we were thinking maybe an outer suburb of Orlando. Also looking for some natural areas to hike camp and enjoy( good luck finding that in south Florida).

Any suggestions?

Orlando is actually more like Miami than Fort Lauderdale in it's bad aspects. Why don't you just move to Cooper City? People wave at you when you are driving on the street there. Seriously, check it out, if you haven't already you would be pretty surprised, and it's only 20 minutes away from Ft. Lauderdale. Check out Davie, Weston, Pembroke Pines, west Miramar too if you haven't already. Basically the entire southwest area. I would avoid the northwest area (north of 595) because it is more crowded. If you have already checked out those places and didn't like them, West Broward (lets say west of University Dr) isn't dramatically different from the nicer parts of Orlando, if anything it's a little better because there is also less traffic and less of a "patchwork" of good and bad. That being said, check out most of Seminole County, which will offer more in the way of nature and hiking. Lake Mary, parts of Casselberry, Longwood, Oviedo, Winter Springs, parts of Altamonte Springs are all good choices. You could also check out Winter Park and the Dr. Phillips area in Orange County, the latter which is very similar to Plantation or Coral Springs. Anywhere else would be a step down IMO. Also, check out the Tampa area.

I think Seminole County would be a pretty nice change...it's a very family oriented area and is at least a tad slower than anything around here. If you can find a job there, you will really enjoy it, because you won't have to leave much. There are some beautiful parks there, including the Wekiva Springs State Park, and much of the eastern side of the county is still rural and well preserved, dotted with parks for enjoyment. I'm picturing you coming from the Ft. Lauderdale city limits, and either way definitely know what you mean.

See you edited (I do that a lot too), Seminole County is to the northeast of Orlando and includes all of the cities I mentioned in my edit, as well as Sanford. It's a fairly small county but has almost anything you would need in the way of shopping and does have a different vibe from our area. Almost the entire county has good schools.

So would you say that when people are bashing Orlando for crime ect ect they are talking about the heart or inner city of Orlando not these northeastern suburbs?

The way you describe that area it sounds really nice and maybe what I'm looking for. I would probably need to commute into the city for work but I'm already commuting 30 min both ways from davie to fortlauderdale down 595 everyday here as it is .

Most of Orlando's major crime is in the inner city west and south side. Pine Hills, Parramore, Oak Ridge, South Orange Blossom Trail, the Millenia area, Orlovista, etc.

You will be fine if you pick somewhere in Seminole County like Oviedo or Lake Mary. When you miss South Florida, SW Orlando feels a little like areas of South Florida. You may even like that part of town to settle in: Dr Phillips, Windermere, Bay Hill, etc. but it is busier than the northern suburbs in Seminole County.

HI....Try looking in Titusville...it's not that far from Orlando and it's much smaller...we live in a great subdivision in Mims, just off I-95..it's actually on route 46. Mims is about 6 minutes north of Titusville.

It takes about 20 minutes to drive to Oviedo, which might be another town you could be interested in checking out.

We love being close to Orlando, but it's just too crowded for our taste, as far as living there goes. Then again, we moved here from CA, and part of the reason for the move was the crowds in CA.

Good luck with your move.

Thanks. You guys are giving me some good options

Titusville sounds nice.
Thing is at least for now due to the restrictions of work and school for my wife and I we will probably need to be within the proximity or a major city at least for now.
